Would second California (hoping more than anything), seems more varied in terms of what they could do scenery wise.
Edit: Or even better, do something outside the US for once.

California would be interesting to see in the Bethesda engine, but you'd basically be treading on FO1's story. -

California has been covered somewhat with the NCR, and is pretty stable according to lore, no ?
Wouldn't make much of a wasteland I'd think. Give me the grim north-east ! -

Registered 12 years agoGood point. Would be great to see a mix of sort of "mini-locations" across Europe... they could start with London and then release DLC packs of other EU cities. -

There was a rumour at one point that Fallout 4 would take place in the same sort of region as New Vegas did, though I'd prefer to see the Commonwealth/Chicago direction. -

Me too, would be great. Or Judge Dredd
I wish Bethesda would make a space opera rpg
Will look forward to this though. I've put more hours into their current gen games than any other game ever. -

Registered 10 years agoIt'd better have a better main storyline than Fallout 3. I remember doing all the side missions and then being hugely underwhelmed by the stupidity of the main storyline. Most of the side missions had a better plot than the main one. -
I'm hoping this is a next gen launch game. Oblivion pretty much sold me on the 360 at the time. -

Strange that you say that, Fallout 3 was the only Bethesda game i've played (Oblivion, Skyrim, New Vegas) where i actually gave a shit about the character in the main storyline. It was the least wooden of the lot.

Registered 18 years agoThey clearly aren't story based games, though I thought the story lines in Fallout 3 and New Vegas were okay. Bethesda games definitely have the thing where you fight your way through an area and you kind of stand there while the NPCs badly act out some plot twist in front of you, usually standing still and reciting their lines. Of course in some situations it doesn't root you to the spot and you can use this valuable time to loot the room!
I assume King_Edward was joking but I would like a Fallout game where you spend some time in the vault before being forced out or venturing out to try and save everyone. It all seemed to happen in the blink of an eye in Fallout 3 and when you did leave you were encouraged to walk straight to Megaton which is pretty civilized.

Registered 19 years agoBethesda have always shone brightest with emergent storytelling and sub-plots. I've never rated the main plots very highly, but the stories I make myself during my wanderings and the weird stuff you find off to the side are often excellent. -

Registered 17 years agoYeah, I can't even remember most of the main plot in Fallout 3. It's stuff like the various abandoned vaults, Tenpenny Tower, Dunwich building, and Oasis that stick in the mind. Even the smallest things, like coming across the diary notes of a survivor trying to find their family. -

Registered 19 years agoI remember spending a truly hellish evening out in the radioactive wilds being hunted by hairless bears and I stumbled across a building just as I was almost out of ammo, armour in tatters, desperate.
I was all, 'Thank God! Sanctuary! Probably a bed!'
And that was my first foray into the Dunwich building.
I stumbled out again cursing the place and everything in it just as dawn was breaking - never been so happy to see a virtual sunrise =D -
More open landscape with less sewers please. -

Is it really true though? Would a game really flop in the States if it wasn't set there? I call BS personally. Remember when devs didn't believe a game would sell if it had a black main character (*cough* San Andreas *cough*)? This almost as big an insult on American culture. -

Registered 19 years agoThere's a certain element that wouldn't enjoy it if it was set somewhere FOREIGN, but I'm not sure how large a section they are. I remember seeing a couple of Americans state that they would enjoy Harry Potter more if some of the students were American - they got eaten alive haha.
I think it's a similar thing to people who can't enjoy a game if the protagonist/avatar isn't male/female, or isn't human. It's an odd thing, I don't understand it at all. -
Even better is female antagonists. Man I'd love a game where everyone I get to shoot and beat up is female. -
Hmm, that comments seemed cleverer and less psychotic sounding in my head. -

Skyrim is clearly based in a fictional version of Scandinavia. The Fable series was clearly set in an alternate Britaim. Only AC3 was set in the US, yet would be the highest selling non-sports franchise of the generation if it wasn't for Activision's behemoth. Pretty much most sucessful old-school western RPGs had a distinctive European flavour.
There are many more examples that haven't jumped to mind which help prove it's a misconception, and none I can think of that prove otherwise.
The 1/4 American part of my blood is offended at the suggestion.
