Don't want to point out the obvious but Ben Hur, the Heston one, was also a remake.
In fact, I think there have been three versions.

One of those films I have seen all of, but never in one sitting, and therefore have no real concept of the chronology.
At least in 10 Commandments he grows a beard to help with the issue. -

The thread should probably be renamed. It's not a remake, it's a new adaptation of the original novel. The Heston version (which actually is a remake) isn't even that good in the first place. It was the Avatar of its time - visually incredible with very little of substance underneath. -

From what I've read, it sounds fucking awful. I don't understand how Bekmambetov still has a directing career in Hollywood, although he seems pretty successful as a producer. -
