    Folks,

I've got a couple of friends who've never played it but want to get in to CS:Source. I play it but I'm not great, I know the basics...

I was wondering if there's a good guide to CS:Source anywhere, so they can read the basics (when they're meant to be working) and they'll have a clue what's going on when they try later.

I've found a few guides but I'll bet there's a really good one out there somewhere.

what you should do is find an empty server then you and your mates train then you will learn faster.

Get them on xfire, I'll happily goto an empty server with them, and help them out. I was a complete noob at this game about a month or so ago, and have found that practise practise practise is the best way.

As I say tho, I'll be happy to teach them the basics on an empty server.

Your friends arn't you are they? ;)

Haha Jetset no, I knew you'd think that.

Like I say, I'm not great at all myself but I do know the basics.

  • Deleted user 14 January 2005 12:21:32
I'd really appreciate a CS lesson if there is one going. I see you guys playing it on Xfire all the time, but couldn't possibly spoil your game by joining in in my current state.

If you do do this, and there's space for me, gis a shout?

Jetset: cut it out, I'm telling the truth ;)

But tonight's not going to happen, we've agreed next Thursday, around 8pm (the joys of having no free time once you're an adult)

I'm at work at the moment unfortunately, but 6:00 tonight sounds good. I've got Jetset on xfire, so I'll look out for him.

My top tip would be to calm down when firing. When I first started played I played as if I was playing Quake - spot an enemy and hold down the fire button, which of course causes you to spray your load everywhere (if you'll pardon the expression). If they can get us to double or triple tapping the mouse button then they'll greatly improve their aim.

Chris - get out the Xfire thread (linked to from Sam's EG user guide).

I'm up for some gaming tonight, although I probably won't be free until later on (9/10ish).

There's a script for it which is very handy. Especially when using the AK.

    /must get back into scripting

I hate how the MP5 is so underpowered now, takes about 3 bursts to the head to kill someone with full armour. I used to 0wn with it. Now everyone just runs around with Arctic Warfare Magnum rifles as if they were assault weapons and use zoom-fire scripts.

Once you have the basics down like killing, not emptying your load everywhere and being very aware of where your team mates are then for me its all about the maps and weapons...

try and sitck with one side for the night, Counter terrorists are my particular favourite, and follow someone who is owning the server. You will get to learn the choke points (for example the tunnlels in dust.) and the best positions to hold/take the choke points.

Always try and crouch when firing, and fire in short bursts of three of four bullets at a time. Always try and aim for the head although if you are really close to an enemy I find if you aim for the chest and let the recoil take the aim up to the head it will usually kill em pretty quick.

Just practise practise practise, you will get better, I'm not much cop meself but I do tend to find I'm in the top three or so if I find a nice server. So if there's any questions I'd be happy to answer them...

Practice throwing flash-bangs round corners, from a distance so that they go off just before you get there. That'll give you a few seconds grace.

When approaching a choke point, WALK! Otherwise they'll hear you coming. If you hear footsteps, check the radar to see if it is a friend. If it is a foe lob a flash-bang and pop a few in his head.

Learn the names of the different parts of each map so you can report to and aid your team-mates.

Don't bunny-hop, it looks silly, slows you down and makes a noise. Although you do get kudos points for jumping over a foe and shooting him in the head mid-air.
