It's good, isn't it? Just experienced it for the first time, and I think it may just rank up there as one of my favourite ever moments in gaming.

Oh yeah .. nothing like getting sent into battle with 1 gun per two guys and your superiors mowing you down should you feel a bit hesitant about your part in such an insane conflict.

    It was intense.

have to agree with Aga though. Poor sods that were there at the time.

and all that is part of what makes it such a powerful scene, you know that it really happened more or less like that. I don't remember playing through a scene in any other game that has had quite the same power and emotion as this level has. I supose I phrased it badly in my first post, and made it sound like I thought it was good for all the wrong reasons. It's more emotional than it is entertaining.

I thought it was great when I first saw it as well, then I saw it in CoD and couldn't believe someone could rip-off a movie and not feel any shame, perhaps they did.

I didn't realise the indepth historical research for CoD was actually just watching films.

I liked the Staingrad level partly because it reminds me of Enemy at the Gates :p

Enemy At The Gate is a superb film, one I keep in the collection.

I didn't like it. Jude Law's accent just felt really out of place.

Woulda been a great film if it didn't have that cack-handed 'love' story rammed up its jacksie.

Yeah, very interesting. For what it's worth, I don't see why something can't be poignant and significant without being entertaining at the same time. Saving Private Ryan and Shindler's List for example, may be realistic and tragic, but they are still entertainment.

Something like Shoah , a 9.5 hour documentary on the Holocaust, will have the same affact in a non entertaining way, but it's this aspect of the films and games that makes them memorable for me, and therefore actually more affective.
