Yeah fibre is available but I do not want to upgrade. Fuck BT. I want to switch to another provider. I really hope it can be done for free of charge and can be quickly installed. Feels like I'm living 20 years in the past with virtually no internet.

Depends on the length of the contract. Sounds like there's 6 months or so left so I doubt it'll be free. Best thing to do is escalate the complaint. And whilst you're locked in, you might want to get her on a call package.

Man, I guess I can take the hit for switching. Is it instant? I would Google these questions but my internet connection is so slow, refreshing the forum takes 20 seconds.

The 130 quid is only if the problem is with your internal wiring (faulty extensions etc). It rarely if ever gets applied. Every other provider will quote you this fee as well as they all use the same Openreach engineers. If shes paying 30 quid then she's probably had the contract for a fee years as broadband prices have dropped massively in the last couple of years, I doubt there'll be any cancellation charges. Or just ring them up and tell them you want to cancel and they'll give you it for a fiver a month or something. OR CONTINUE WITH THE BLIND RAGE.

I've noticed Judas Priest (Rob) and Black Sabbath (Ozzy) used to pronounce words like "fast" or "last" like Americans do, like a longer version of "best". Is that a Brummie thing or were they just aping the Yanks?

Thanks for the info. She says she's had it for just over a year, but her memory isn't the best, could be longer. Do you know what the estimated speed is for her package? 3-4Mbps. Crazy for that price. I'll phone up another provider tomorrow and get it started.

The prices aren't based on speed for any provider really. But yeah she's been ripped if she's only had it a year.

@Physically_Insane Best of luck, BT are absolute robbing bastards who will charge you a cancellation fee, a disconnection fee, and then some other fee just for good measure thats hidden somewhere in the small print.

    Utter, utter cunts.

Been with orange (and thus EE) for about 15 years. Soon as they became EE their customer service started going toilet as some management twat obviously decided to 'streamline it' or something and thus you could never get hold of anyone or were bounced around multiple people and still none the wiser.

Anyway, sufficed to say, as soon as I read that BT were taking them over, I let my contract run and switched out.

Posts here just affirm to me that it was the right decision. I'd rather lick a horses cock than pay them money for anything.

@Physically_Insane stick the postcode and phone number into a line checker, it'll tell you what you should get in theory (what you get then influenced by other factors including contention ration, internal wiring etc).

    @MH-RobJenx

    This. A thousand times this.

Shortly after they became EE, I upgraded my phone. Without my knowledge or consent, they slashed my data allowance from 2gb to 500mb a month, which resulted in a massive monthly bill as I'd been using data thinking I had lots to spare. They denied that they had slashed my data allowance, despite my bills making it clear that they had. I asked them to provide any paperwork showing I had agreed to a reduced data package (I had upgraded in-store in northampton). They said they couldn't.

Many, many months of angry phonecalls ensued between me, billing, customer service managers, and eventually they sent my account to a debt collector - who, after I explained the whole thing and provided my bills as evidence, promptly sent my account back to them stating that it was EE in error, not myself.

Now I'm with Three, who I haven't had a single problem with. 8gb data, unlimited texts and calls, no roaming charges in 18 countries, and national numbers (0845 etc) included for £50 pcm with my new phone.

They're tried to screw me over data allowance too after an upgrade a few years ago. Had the same issue, rang about 5-6 different operators, had to explain the same story. Ended up writing to them and threatening to cancel the contract as it was mis-sold on the phone. They backed down eventually but it was a massive ball ache.

@MH-RobJenx They're still trying to pursue me now. Fuckers have wrecked my credit rating, which was otherwise impeccable. They are total cunts.

I can probably contact Experian and lodge a dispute to get it stricken from my credit record, but I have bigger problems atm.

Experian wouldn't be able to do anything anyway. You'd need to get EE to retract it.

@spamdangled good fucking luck. EE did the same to me, and be I've gone down every route imaginable to have it removed.

    No dice.

Fucked my credit up for a decade at least.
  • Deleted user 5 April 2016 15:51:12
Your credit can only be fucked for 6 years, so you should be alright.

It'll disappear from your record, bit your score is permanently lowered during that time and doesn't bounce back after.

There's a difference between the score and report, and one is significantly more fucked than the other
  • Deleted user 5 April 2016 15:58:32
Once a default is removed it should increase your score. BUT:

Credit scores are a load of bollocks anyway. Individual creditors normally have their own criteria which is different to Experian, Equifax, Noddle and the rest of the shitheads who have made a fortune with these reports by selling personal data to finance companies.

If you have unsatisfied defaults and you're happy to wait until the 6 year limitation period is over then do it. I certainly would if it meant not giving EE some cash.

Well here's the short story of it all.

Back way back when they were a thing, I had a 3G mobile dongle with T-Mobile. I was out of my minimum contract, was moving to a place with dedicated lines and so I called them up to cancel it. They advised that it needed to be in writing, so I sent a letter, and moved away from the old address.

They never got that letter, apparently. And I never got the statements or supposed calls telling me I was behind. Account went to default and to debt collectors, at which point Experian alerted me and I promptly paid up the missed amount and made sure it was all cancelled.

But T-Mobile didn't remove the default. For £30. So for 6 years, that was there, and lowered my credit score from 850 odd to 250. Know what you can get with 250? Fuck all.

The default has now expired and isn't on my record anymore, but my score is still suffering at 300. It only expired last September, but I'm trying to build it back up with high interest rate credit and etc but it'll take me a good 3-4 years to get back to where I was and be eligible for a reasonable mortgage rate. Till then, no fucking chance - and what house prices will be like in 3-4 years I have no idea. Being a first time buyer right now is already murder with people putting down £25k deposits and etc, I honestly don't know if it's at all possible for me to buy in the future at this rate. But not having any access to real credit is a complete fucking ball ache for sure.

    All for a £30 a month 3G phone dongle.
  • Deleted user 5 April 2016 16:15:47
Sounds like something is wrong with your credit report. Have you tried getting one from someone other than Experian to check?

I had a few defaults, I still have one remaining actually, and my score wasn't that low. They were satisfied however, I paid the debt.

I was also able to get a virgin credit card easily a few months back. Might be different because I have active credit which I've had for years with my overdraft.

As I said and many others have across the internet, the scores are a bit janky and individual lenders will asses you according to their criteria, not Experians.

When they were Orange, I had zero issues with them. I was with them from 2004 to 2014. Then they became EE. That's when the problems started.

Every single credit rating agency, yeah. Scored with all of them, and all are shit.

I think mine is a bit worse because it wasn't just a default, but also a final demand because I was unaware. And was then sold off to an agency immediately after that.

I'm still using a corn flakes bowl from 1987. Happened to look at the bottom of it when putting it away.

Fair play, that's not bad for a freebie!

With orange (Well, EE) they are logging a default every single month. Since 2014. Despite debt collectors sending it back to them statng there is no case to answer and they're at fault. They're stubborn cunts.

The stupid thing is that I continued to pay my monthly bill, I was just refusing to pay the disputed amount.
