Pills are really the only way for me to manage my BP. I'm not overweight. I'm not massively unfit (though a bit more exercise wouldn't hurt). My diet and alcohol consumption are within normal parameters.

I just get hit by family history, on both sides of the family. My dad's been on BP medication since he was my age, as have all of his brothers. Every male relative on my mum's side has also had BP problems. The medication has it down in the normal range again and I'm not getting any side effects. Just need to accept I'm going to be taking this stuff for the rest of my life.
Aye, hereditary high blood pressure here too. Both (Scots) grandparents on my dad's side had it, as did my dad and my sister and brother. I was 29 (16 years ago now) when I asked the GP to take mine just in case (no symptoms) and he laughed at me. Then took my BP and immediately stuck me on some pills. Had every test under the sun since and no reason other than its hereditary. Been on them since. I could lose 4 stone and still be on them (my way of admitting that I'm still a bit of a fat fuck despite losing 2 stone in the last few years).

Mine is really low and I get dizzy getting out of the bath.

I need more stress and salt in my life.

Means all the salt I want though, which can't be too bad.

    I don't really do salty foods. :(

    I salt it first.

Iím changing jobs at the end of the month, yesterday I get a security email from our mail server that my manager has set up a forwarding rule from my account to his. Heís only been there for 10 months and probably didnít know that I have admin rights on the mail server, without which I wouldnít have received the security warning. Is this something to get upset about or normal practice? I had him on the phone about an hour before he did this, felt like he could have mentioned it?

Seems normal/sensible. Although the end of the months is still a while away, so maybe it's a bit early for ti to be set up now.

My concern was mainly that I have two new guys under my wing, they follow me along at the customers sites to do repairs. They tend to ask me stuff and sometimes even complain about how things are organised, so I gave them a call saying look, if you write me a mail itís like youíre mailing directly to the boss now, so look out.

Normally we set up the forwarding on the last day, and people should be informed, normally with an out of office type mail.

Doesn't sound normal to me. Where I work that would need HR's approval and InfoSec to action it.

Yeah, I thought you meant is it normal that they'll be forwarding my mail.
I think it is .. but

I'd expect it to be like you describe, yeah. To have it turned on on the sly this earl on is not the norm I'd say.

Wouldn't happen at my place. First, we're an e-mail heavy organisation and no sane line manager is going to want to get all of the e-mail that goes to one of their team. Second, we have some odd security arrangements for particular projects (commercial sensitivities) and while it's rare, it's not unknown for people to be authorised to see material that their manager isn't.

Nearly everywhere I work all emails get forwarded anyway. There is usually a clause in your contract somewhere.

It's usually a secret policy only known to senior management than all emails are saved and accessible (via mimecast or similar) while any flagged emails get blind copied to HR or a designated folder that is monitored. Flags are drug names for instance, or any email with an attachments in excel format. These are then occasionally randomly scanned to ensure people aren't sending forwarding out database information or list of clients etc.

Fuck the search, I can't find the "unsmooth moment" thread but here's a contender from a few hours ago at the gym.

I suffer - thankfully very rarely - from vasovagal (stop sniggering) syncope, which takes the form of the following symptoms:

    - sweats
    - whitey
    - tunnel vision
    - feeling of intense, I'm-Gonna-Die dread

And finally, loss of consciousness and a Chris-like swoon to the floor, spark out. You regain consciousness after a few seconds.

Anyhoo, I learned that, in the absence of sitting down, you can prevent the final act by 'hulking up' and flexing your core muscles (well, as many muscles as you can). I think you can see where this is going. As I walked out of the changing rooms to start my workout, I got the warning signs, and so I start tensing up.

Other gym goer (caustically): wow yeah dude, you're HUGE brah!
    Me: ahh, fuck it

I stopped the coping technique due to embarrassment. I PASSED OUT RATHER THAN BE SEEN AS POSING.

Christ my legs are killing me. I woke up with my heels pressing halfway up my back (you just 'fold up' like an accordion when the lights go out).

So, that was today's fun. THIS IS WHY I DON'T LIKE GOING OUTDOORS

    Haha. Poor fucker.

On the flip side of this coin some dickhead is going round telling his mates he rinsed a guy so hard at the gym he actually fainted.

ĎMate, he just folded like an accordion. It was savage.í

Haha, that's a good story for the Adrift podcast. Which if you're not aware of it, is about misanthropes and failed social interactions.

Halfway through reading your post I was sure you had soiled yourself either at the flexing or the fainting part. Cheer up, could have been worse?
