Presumably it will burst through the wall, and then melodramatically faint...

Woman in the team next to mine is having a loud phonecall with daughter who has clearly just had disappointing A-level results. Entertaining to hear how it's straddling the line between "anguished commiseration" and "angry bollocking". Wondering if I should start taking bets in the office over which side of the line it's going to end on.

Sounds like mine except my mum and dad took one side each in a solid good cop/bad cop routine.

And then bad cop continued every time I was put on hold during clearing.

"Angry bollocking" won out in the end.

    thats a shame...

i appreciate there is reason for angry bollocking, but the kid must be feeling pretty shitty already.

I would have thought the best response is sympathy for a few days, then trying to think of a proactive solution before angry bollocking.

@Graxlar_v3 I don't know the woman in question well, but from what I've seen, she's very much in the "helicopter parent" camp. Suspect based on this morning's call that she may have been more invested in these results than her daughter.

A-level results day is weird. I was ok - met my offer, so all was good. But remember some fairly apocalyptic bollockings going on around me (generally in person as mobile phones were still rare back then). Private school (albeit a minor-league one), which may have contributed to it - parents possibly feel a bit more strongly when they've been paying for the education.

Seems like it's a bit late for a bollocking at that stage.

Mine was due to the fact that I did absolutely fuck all in two years and, despite repeated warnings, expected to skate through them like a did with my GCSEs.

I've got a master's degree and a fairly hefty chunk of professional qualifications and they remain the hardest thing I've ever done.

@nickthegun I remember the jump from GCSE to A-Level feeling pretty harsh at the time. Much harsher than the later jump from A-Level to undergrad. I basically just had no life for the duration of 6th Form.

Was the opposite for me. When they covered my entire 2 year maths and further maths syllabus in the first 4 weeks of my undergrad degree I knew I was in trouble...

She's got her husband on the phone now. Recriminations ahoy! Results apparently BBCC - not bad in the big scheme of things, so guessing she must have been applying to one of the higher-end unis. But some quality blamestorming going on here.

Rapidly filling my "terrifying overwhelming parent" bingo card here. Best line so far: "If she's going to a shit uni then she's going to a local one so I can see what she's doing". I'd have thought BBCC would be sufficient for somewhere quite reasonable? Bottom-end-of-Russell-Group territory, surely? Maybe it varies by subject.

And the head of her team just told her to take the conversation into a meeting room. Entirely right of him, of course, but I'm still going to hate him for taking away my entertainment on a boring Thursday morning.

I'll hide his mug later. Maybe even see if I can cause a paper-jam in his team's printer.

I actually did 15 modules instead of 12 but the school wouldn't give me an extra half a-level the cunts
