I'm sure the people are lovely but the processes are horseshit. Emails and Google forms disappear into the ether and you have no other way of contacting any or them. You can track them down but you get a bounce back from their personal email and it won't be answered.

I couldn't do my job without the HR partner I have supporting me.

They're fucking brilliant - genuinely - as is their assistant. I have to do some difficult conversations relatively often and they both have my back and keep me honest. Of course they work for the company but they straddle that line between protecting the company and individuals so, so well.

I'm going to be fucked when I get another job and get lumbered with Basic Beckies

There's not really HR at mine: it exists in concept many miles away at corporate HQ but at a local level it's left to senior managers (who are much more ops, technical and engineery-oriented) and not great at soft skills.

@pacrifice Suspect I've known two clinical psychopaths over the years. The first was in my primary school class and was, with hindsight, a fairly classic case of the sadistic subtype. Enjoyed torturing animals and the like. Got by for a while covering it up by being very polite around adults. Was found out (kids aren't that smart) and transferred out of my school to a specialist unit at around 8 or so. Eventually found out he was killed in prison in his early 20s.

Second was - unusually - a woman (80% of clinical psychopaths are male). Not the violent type - most psychopaths aren't - but incredibly self-centred. Managed an incredible career trajectory for a few years by making all of the right noises and moving between jobs rapidly. Was incredibly charming if she thought you were important for her career progress. Was utterly vile to you if she thought otherwise (I got to be on both sides at various points).

Eventually got caught out after a savvy old director 30 years her senior cottoned on to what she was doing, refused her request for an internal transfer after 6 months and made her stay in post long enough for the consequences of her actions to catch up with her. She left the organisation at that point - taking a massive demotion to do so - and last I heard was trying her old tricks again in an entirely different field.

Edit: Also, for anybody interested in reading into more on the graphic Pacrifice linked, while it's a bit dark, the Columbine killers are pretty much classic archetypes and case-studies. Harris was a sadistic-psychopath, Klebold a suidical-sociopath. Unlikely that either would have acted out what they did without the influence of the other.

I don't mind Chicago Med, currently nearing the end of season 3. The storylines are predictable and there's not much that hasn't already been done on just about any medical drama you can think of (and probably twice on Grey's) but it ticks along quite nicely. I think it's mostly saved by Oliver Platt though.

I'm sat opposite someone at work who is a ordinarily sneeze surpressor but has a cold today.

She sounds like the intro to an old house tune. Hhhmp-tiss, hhhmp-tiss, hhhmmmp-tiss all fucking morning.

@Biggy316 yep. It used to be busier but loads of people have been banned or moved on. Reddit probably took a load of members or people just decided sitting around typing about games and having the same arguments with the same people is a bit of a waste of time.

I still do both sometimes, although mostly games chat when a new souls or rogue like is out. I also suspect some of it is Facebook and Twitter which are both stickier than this ancient, creaking mess of a thing.

It's all good though, I made a bunch of friends during my time here and we are still mates to this day!

The reviews on this site make me balk anyway these days :)

I do miss Leolians Bro though.

Oh the battles we had. Sighhh.

Forum is undeniably a lot quieter. Isn't Roger Reedpop going to kill it off soon anyway?

Probably going to do the last of my key-swap threads in a week or two. The bundle model is virtually dead now - Humble does very few game bundles these days and is even changing its monthly and Fanatical has gone to a lootbox-style model that I'm not touching. But I've just about got enough codes to make one last thread worthwhile.

@MrAGSystems Meh, this isn't my youth. I was aging and balding when I found these forums.

When Quakenet goes down... now that's when I'll feel the existential dread of death's slow advance.
