Were you working in the same role for the same company for ten years?

Got a 14p payrise today. Rolling in it!
I got a 1% one which supposedly covers CPIH. Have a feeling it's going to come nowhere close to that over the coming year though thanks to good old Brexit.
The argument me and my colleague had was that when we started(6 years or so ago) we were I think earning just over a quid above minimum wage and year on year as that's gone up the gap has closed. With it going up again slightly they gave us the 14p to tip us just over. I could really just get a job as a cleaner and not be much worse off with a buttload less responsibility.

When I started I should have asked for some extra pay seeing as I'm handling hazardous chemicals all day(acetone, methanol and various pharmaceuticals) but being a contractor they just give us the bare minimum.

Also - its 10 years this October since I was made redundant. It was 3 years before that since a pay rise.
So in real terms a fairly substantial pay drop.
Am I dim or does that mean you've been unemployed for 13 years?

Nope, not a sausage. I'll get one eventually, give it enough time and minimum wage will catch up with me.

    @Armoured_Bear Yes, you are dim.
I was made redundant in 2011. 3 years before being made redundant was the last pay rise I 'experienced'
I subsequently got a new job and while having been in continuous employment since, have not had a pay rise.

When I ask a question like that, the answer is always the same :(

Anyone know how to unsubscribe from Uber marketing emails? Couldn't find any options under my account on the website, and I get a server error when clicking the unsubscribe link.

Yes. They kept continually hiding behind the 2008 financial crash.

So it turns out that my house actually has smart meters already installed from the previous owner and I've been providing readings like a mug. Previous owner didn't leave the display behind, so I just assumed they were just new meters (none of the displays mention current usage etc, they just give a standard reading)

Octopus seem to have picked them up without any issues (multiple arms must've helped...) and they're reporting usage, so not all of the stories about new providers not being able to take over smart meters are true!

I think it's mandatory to increase wages in line with inflation here.
Or at least many sectors have this in place through collective wage agreements that cover all companies in that sector.

Annoying that mine don't work with the new provider, but then it's not massive hassle to deal with.

Mrs Hermit informs me that I have been a proper miserable, grumpy cunt for the last week or so and that it would be in my best interests to snap out of it sharpish. Also I appear to be saying cunt way more than usual.

@robthehermit We're having another round of generalised grumpiness at work this week. Even with the shops back open, I think there's a bit of lockdown fatigue. Plus some of the same "can't wait to get to the pub/how dare you go to the pub" tensions that we've seen on the forums over in the Coronavirus thread.

You can find the precise location of the NFC sensor on the back of your phone by turning up the volume to maximum and then moving a contactless bank card around against your phone until it beeps.
