Registered 9 years agoI have Sennheiser pmx 685i headphones for running. The sound quality is excellent, and they never, ever fall out.
Only beef is that the volume controls don't work with Android phones. But then, the same could be said for just about every pair of headphones these days. -

I can also vouch for the HD 25's all-around awesomeness but they're quite a way above the OP's budget. They'll last a lifetime but don't come cheap.

Yeah, a mate of mine has the HD 25s too, but they cost about €180.
I recently purchased these for €59.99, the Sony MDR ZX-600. (I've them in black with a grey cable, much nicer!). After a few weeks of using them I've found:
- Can wear them for hours at a time (they're supra aural) and they stay pretty comfortable (they get warm but that's been a very good thing over the last few weeks!)
- They passively isolate noise pretty well, also they leak very little.
- Flat cable, doesn't tangle much.
- Really easy for a portable device to drive, and they're fairly neutral sounding (which I'm a big fan of). They respond to EQ'ing pretty well.
I haven't actually tried them out on games or music at home, as that's all through the hifi on a set of Senny HD 558s, but I love them so far, probably my fave set of 'out and abouts'.

I found with user reviews to only look for repeating, genuine criticisms. I literally read thousands of them when I was trying to pick out a new set of home headphones, and people flip out and give poor ratings over the most idiotic things (I never failed to 'lol' at folk complaining that the open back headphones they just spent a mint on leaked sound!)

Registered 13 years agoSennheiser HD558s are pretty awesome and comfortable but way overpriced.
Look into Sennheisers, AKG or Grado. Hard to go wrong with any of those brands, but make sure to know what sort of sound you like (bright, bass-heavy, etc.)

But for pure listening pleasure in the right environment the Grado SR80i really are brilliant. Love mine. -

Registered 16 years agoYeah they will never go out of the house. I can't really listen to music on the move anyway -
I got these headphones for running, only wore them once but so far so positive. Fit comfortably, don't ache after listening for ages. Sound quality is excellent and it purposefully leaves in enough ambient noise to maintain some level of awareness

Registered 18 years agoI'd also give a vaguely optimistic recommendation for the Grado but more than that I'd recommend that people try out the 'phones for a while before buying. Also the best 'bang for buck' imo goes to the Superlux Chinese knock-off brand that Thomann stocks. They are pretty decent copies of much more expensive AKG, Sennheiser and Beyerdynamic headphones... -

Registered 12 years agoThe AKG 450 are under £40 on Amazon UK at the moment...They got "Headphone product of the year 2011" from the usually trustworthy What Hi-Fi? and generally excellent reviews everywhere.
I think they were listed at launch at £150, and they're possibly the most comfortable headphones I've ever used,. I use Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro's for making music, which are superb sounding but slowly..crush..your..head. The AKG's you wouldn't even know you had them on.
You can't really go wrong with Grado's, but for the money these are stupidly good.
Be warned though - after urging my guitar students to buy these for Christmas instead of some £200 Beats bassboxes, out of ten who bought them two sent them back because of faults. They also bleed a lot, so not really suited for those bus/tube journeys. -

Cheap and cheerful (17 quid), but surprisingly good:

Oh yeah, and these bad boys for less than £5 are very decent in-ear phones:

Seriously, for less than £25 you will have a very good pair of home headphones, and a very good pair for out on the move. Decent build quality on both as well.

The lifetime warranty does not apply to all retailers (or did not, way back then ?). Amazon in particular (in my country, at least). Hence perhaps their low price there. I wouldn't have kept them much longer anyway, as their sound wasn't to my liking, or fitting to my tastes in music.
