There's far too many types of headphones and earphones these days. Over ear, on ear, in ear, in inner ear, with headband, without, with sort of weird round-the-ear things. Makes it a bugger when searching for things to buy on the internet. I can't take the in-inner-ear sort, yet I've not yet found a keyword to exclude those from the other sort of headphones. |

Registered 16 years agoWhy not? Took me a day or two to adjust and the sound is SO much better than other earphones. -

Registered 19 years agoI can't take them, in that they don't fit in my ears. Dunno why, didn't think I had odd ears. -

Registered 16 years agoHmm. Mine came with three sets and two of the three worked fine. The double fin ones didn't though.
Still worth it. For 55 quid the sound is fantastic. (Klipsche S4) -

Registered 16 years agoIf you don't mind huge headphones then I absolutely 100% recommend the MAudio Q40. It's currently blasting my ear off with bass. -

Yeah, even with the smallest plugs they absolutely killed my ear canals.

It's supra-aural for on the move or circumaural at home for me! -

Depends on your headphones. Depends on your current amp (good speaker amps tend to offer good headphone output). In short : depends. What do you have ?

Even then I'd say probably not. Better go with an external DAC if your headphone socket is noisy. If you use any of the headphones that have been mentioned here, an amp is more likely to add distortion than anything else.

My brother has one, but then he also has some serious proper audiophile Swedish brand you've never heard of made by albino orphans in space and requiring a second mortgage on your house to buy type headphones. -

Registered 17 years agoI have a pair of Seenheiser HD 595s for in the house and they are an absolute delight. Superb sound and very comfortable even for mammoth listening sessions. They do leak a lot though so no good for travelling.
On the go I use a pair of Etymotic Research HF2 which are very nice IEMs. They developed a fault where the connector joins the control section making the right ear cut out just before they were 2 years old. Sent them back to Etymotic in the states and they sent me a brand new pair. Very impressed. They have a very natural sound and to me are very comfortable but I know some people don't get on with IEMs. -

For office use, these are outstanding. -

Registered 9 years agoThese BOSE ones are good, I'm not usually a fan of them but these do work well. There are some cheaper Audio Technica ones that sound better but have loads of leakage... -

If you havent already bought them the 451 are a lot better than the 450s and worth the extra cash.
My HD 205's literally snapped in two after I had the nerve to pick them up. Gonna get AKG K450 now. -

Registered 16 years agoI've always found if the headset is good enough you don't need noise cancelling.
At semi-loud volume it's almost impossible to hear anything else over mine. -

Registered 19 years agoI bought a pair of these in the Black Friday sales last year (and annoyingly, they're now five quid cheaper than what I paid for them).
In terms of noise cancelling they do nothing to muffle conversation or deep bass, but I used them on a train journey and they did a lot of dull the midrange noise from the train itself, making the journey a lot more peaceful, and leading to me needing to turn the volume up less when listening to music on them (which they handle not too badly).
Downsides are if you're trying to use them to quieten the kids while you're trying to work, they'll do very little over an average pair of headphones, and they are perhaps the flimsiest bit of consumer electronics I've ever owned.
Unlike the specs they work fine with the NR turned off, with minimal impact on the audio quality. -
I'd try a market knock-off first. Surprisingly the new apple in ears are brilliant and tend not to hurt. -

Registered 17 years agoAnyone interested in buying my Sennheiser HD 595's? I've owned them for a few years but barely used them in that time, so they're in excellent condition.
Not really sure how much to ask for them, make me an offer! -
