Well that blows a big one. Just after Xmen was starting to get some momentum after faltering hard with X3.

Getting a pounding, even the positive reviews aren't exactly that positive.

This is the opinion of Empire's digital editor, his favourite comic book movie is X2 :

Yes, it's sad but true. X-Men: Apocalypse is not good at all. A real disappointment and not even on a par with X-Men: The Last Stand.

Looks like Singer was snorting too much coke off twink twins' asses with Roland Emmerich and forgot to bother to make a decent film.

Not totally surprised tbh, none of the trailers for this have been much cop. I can't remember being so underwhelmed in the run up to a xmen film before.

Aww, that sucks. Generally I trust Singer as a director, though, so I'll probably see this anyway.

Wasn't expecting that. I'll still check it out but sorry to hear it's turned out so poorly.

Fox aren't going to give up the rights to the X-Men characters any time soon. Look how hard they've been hanging onto the Fantastic Four, they will want to hold onto the rights just for Wolverine.

    @M83J01P97
I'm sure them raking in 3/4 of a billion for DoFP didn't hurt, either...

Head guy at Fox has confirmed that the next Wolverine film is set in the future and is a hard R rated film. It's going to be incredibly violent and bloody,

Not 100% sure he's confirmed it's based on Old Man Logan story.

I'm not sure how based on it, it could be though. It's mad as a hatter.

They also don't have tge rights to most of the characters in it. Most are speculating crappy revision of it.

I'd have to be a lose adaptation, which I'd be fine with. It's not my favourite Wolverine story so change away.

I know I'm in the minority here but I genuinely loved The Wolverine, it's one of the few comic book films I've bothered watching several times. So I'll give Mangold the benefit of the doubt.

As for Apocalypse... I'm still tempted to see it. I'm not expecting anything mind blowing, but think I'll enjoy it enough.

Except the last Fantastic Four movie was a failure, Hugh Jackman is quitting after the next Wolverine movie and the Sony/ Marvel Spider-Man deal has worked out incredibly well with Civil War. I think Fox will definitely be considering some kind of deal with Marvel.

It's disappointing that Apocalypse is getting negative reviews. I even enjoyed X-Men 3 though so I'm sure I'll get some enjoyment out of it.

It's probably to early to say whether or not Fox are about to hand over the rights. Apocalypse might do decent numbers. And don't forget they did fantastic with Deadpool (massive return on a very small budget).

They've still got Gambit coming out and the New Mutants film is prepping. Wolverine 3 too (although as you say, it's the last one with Jackman).

I don't think they're going to be handing over any X-Men rights anytime soon.

I'm not entirely convinced marvel would even want them.

The X-men are just too big and unwieldy to neatly fold into that universe.

Even in the comics they have a hard time rationalising why people high five superheroes who get their powers in a freak accident but spit on ones who are born with them.

Disappointing to read, but I was genuinely surprised at just how poor the trailer was for this tbh.

    Meh.

I'm still puzzled by the shoehorning of the X-Men characters into the Sky Fibre ad, Apocalypse is set in 1983, how the hell would any of the characters know what broadband is in the first place?

Ignoring movie streaming and console gaming on a flat screen. I don't think the tech level of X-Men is that advanced of our eighties.

/possibly reading more into a bloody annoying ad than necessary

Momentum as in getting some form with First Class and DoFP after the torrid X3.

It must be difficult having to come up with powers that supersede the last films badguy. Gets ridiculous.

I won't be happy unless they get to fight with Apocalyse's hand.

Kind of a shame, was really looking forward to this but it sounds like it's all gone wonky again.

How is X-Men fuckupable? He's made two decent one's before and has solid acting talent, in Fassbender, Lawrence, Issac and Mcavoy.

it's disappointing to hear this is getting mixed to poor reviews. I was looking forward to this more than BvS or Civil War, DoFP was well done and probably my favourite of the series.

Hasn't the Gambit movie had a load of problems? I believe it was supposed to be releasing this year initially but, as far as I'm aware, it's not even begun filming yet. From a quick google it sounds like New Mutants is currently just a possibility as well. And they wouldn't have to hand the rights over, Sony still own the Spider-Man movie rights. I think Deadpool could carry on unchanged if it did happen too, you could even get a few good jokes out of it.

All that said, I'm not expecting it to happen, I think Fantastic Four is much more likely and I doubt even that will happen, but I think if it is going to happen it will be within the next year or two.

I think Marvel could solve the whole Mutant/ Superhero problem by not having the focus of the X-Men movies be about people's acceptance, or lack thereof, of them. Superhero's secret identities are usually important in the comics and other movies but nobody (except, I guess, Spider-Man?) has one in the MCU.
