Milo thinks getting consent for sex is "absurd"

Which is REALLY sinister when combined with this:

It can, but you still need consent.

Look, you can be spontaneous and still make sure it's consensual. In fact, you should. Always.

And if you can't appreciate that... Well, all I can say to that is if you ever find yourself up on a rape charge don't come running to me for sympathy :)

Sure but not in written form every step of the way. Sometimes consent isn't necessarily communicated. You rely on cues from the other person. Sometimes it's spontaneous. You know, spontaneous?
I think you're talking about implied consent here, possibly non-verbal. Consent can still be given even if not stated explicitly i.e. verbally. Very hard to define though, hence it being controversial.

And if you can't appreciate that... Well, all I can say to that is if you ever find yourself up on a rape charge don't come running to me for sympathy :)
Is there a need for stuff like this? Bad taste imo.

What's nasty about it? I never said he would rape someone, but if you don't get consent and leave it as implied as you say then it's he said, she said and you're having to defend yourself on potentially shaky grounds.

If you're being questioned and they ask "did you get consent?" and your answer is "it was implied" it's not as cut and dry as "yes".

Have you never been with someone in the throes of passion, torn each others clothes off and had sex with barely a word spoken between you? Has there been no consent given in this example, not even non-verbal? I think this is what bOrk was trying to get at.

With regards to the rape charge comment, I felt you implied that bOrk could/would by saying 'and if you can't appreciate that...', hence my reaction.

I would consider that actual consent rather than implied :)

But there may be situations where it's not quite as clear, where she doesn't seem quite as keen or is that fucking sloppily drunk that you can't really say for sure...

@opalw00t Great link mate. Why did it take so long for someone to write something like this!?

    One funny thing he says:
I guarantee it. Did you enjoy The Last Of Us? That story was a little bit more sophisticated, right? Thatís because annoying people, annoying critics, over months and years, pushed video games in that direction.
I loved the last of us, thought it was fantastic. AS got praised by its developer for her influence before her GDC award, which shows she is having a positive effect. Then you get shite like this article(Shite article). It is this pandering nonsense that has to get called out.

Surely the issue with the latest breitbart troll isn't that he talks about implied consent, but that he writes off explicit consent wholesale, calling it "absurd". It's not a case of "sometimes consent isn't explicit" which is reasonable, it's "consent shouldn't be explicit" which is mental.

Isn't that the site where you read up on the latest pathfinding algorithms?

I never venture onto the EG front pages and I have mostly ignored this topic and the "XYZ goes to bat for girls" or whatever it's called. I checked out this thread here a while ago and it was full of people discussing Destiny gameplay.

So can someone enlighten me and save me the trouble of wading through umpteen google seach results: what's gamergate?

Best summed up by what someone said up thread.

    "What Do We Want?"
"An end to corruption in gaming press!"
    "When do we want it?"
    "Anita is a liar!"

Basically it is a thin veneer of pretending to want an end to some nebulous corruption, while actually being attacks on women for daring to point out that some games have sexist elements.

    Thanks

That's where I was getting a bit confused I think. There seemed to be some discussions happening on sexism and some on journalism integrity.

I shall continue to largely ignore the whole shitfest I think.

    @Mola_Ram path finding algorithms?

I haven't visited Gamasutra since my days as a Shockwave Indie Dev so I guess a lot must have changed. Leigh Alexanders think piece is a clear indicator of that.

Leigh is great, always loved her articles in edge. Easily my favourite female games journalist.

do any of the girls ign slap on all their videos know anything? The do the news and interviews but comes across like they know very little, they seem only good at looking pretty.
