Just a heads up for anyone that hasn't heard about this. Radio 4 are starting a six part adaptation of Neil Gaiman's 'Neverwhere' this Saturday. Decent cast - James McAvoy, Benedict Cumberbatch, Christopher Lee, Bernard Cribbins & Anthony Head to name but a few. "Neverwhere begins with an hour-long episode at 2:30pm on Saturday 16 March on Radio 4 and continues with five 30-minute instalments stripped across the week on Radio 4 Extra from Monday 18 March." More details here. |

Registered 19 years agoCertainly not my favourite Gaiman story, but I'll give it a listen all the same. Heard about this on my way back from work. -

Registered 20 years agoOooh - superb. Thanks for the heads up, Boo.
I think that the TV version still holds up well. -
Nice, loved the book will definitely give this a listen. -
Yeah, amazing cast. Not heard of the book though - shame on me. -

Registered 18 years agoIt was actually devised as a TV series first (co-created with Lenny Henry, fact fans). The novelisation came afterwards.
@caligari - Completely agree. Thought the TV series (with the exception of the beast of London) was excellent. -

Registered 13 years agoThis kind of thing always works best on Radio. More scope for the imagination.
Also, Bandersnatch as The Angel Islington is a choice bit of casting. -

This is great news! My girlfriend is a huge fan of Neil Gaiman, and Cumberbatch/McAvoy so she'll be delighted about this, thanks boo! -

Registered 16 years agoGood shout, I remember loving this on TV. It's probably my favourite Gaiman story, or at least I think it was. Haven't seen the show or read the book for quite sometime. There was a graphic novel too I think, but I passed on that.
I'll catch it on radio iPlayer thing too, if (more likely when) I totally forget about it.

Registered 13 years agoLooking forward to this, loved the show way back when, especially Hywel Bennet's Mr Vandemar.
Caught the show by chance and didn't get a chance to read the book til much. I do enjoy a good Radio 4 adaptation so can't imagine it will be any less than great.
Cumberbatch too, sweet! -

Registered 17 years agoI only saw the TV show about a year ago; picked it up cheap on a whim. I really enjoyed it, thought the cast was mostly excellent, the plot pretty good, the premise very intriguing and really the only thing not in its favour was a slight low budget feel. Great stuff though - I'll check out the radio show. -

Registered 10 years agoIs there anyway to download from iPlayer so I can listen in the car? Or will it ever be released on CD?! (same goes for the Terry Pratchett one only on the site for 12 hours) -

Registered 16 years agoI'm pretty sure it will be released on CD, all Dirk Mags audios tend to be. Usually as extended editions too. -

Registered 20 years agoVery timely, ta. Seems my PVR got confused by the channel change, so I've just set up a timer for the rest of the series.
Not got round to listening to the first ep yet. -
