Yeah with Germany being subbed out, it probably changed the game a bit. Still good fun to watch. I like the little animation. ![]() I noticed in the orders that you can actually have two neighbouring countries support each other. I never thought of that. (I think most recently Andy did it with Rome and Naples). What I'd done in this case was get one country to hold and the neighbouring country to support it holding. I noticed Andy had country A supporting B and country B supporting A. But neither one actually had an older to hold, although it was being supported to hold. Rome SUPPORT Naples to hold -> resolved Naples SUPPORT Rome to hold -> resolved So just to be clear: If I tell each territory to hold. It each has 1 defense. If I tell one to hold and one to support, one has 2 defense and one 0. If you tell each to support the other to hold ... do they each have 1 defense or do they have 2 each? |

Registered 7 years agoThey both have 2 defence if they support each other. If they both hold they have 1. If one holds and the other supports, one has 2 and the other has 1.
Does that make any sense...?
I think my big mistake this game was attacking Italy so early. I should have attacked Turkey early on... -

Registered 14 years agoThis game is still going despite two truce proposals from Turkey?
Are France and England hoping to fight Turkey down to a smaller size? Push him out completely and then have a 2 way truce? -

Registered 14 years agoIt got a bit complicated and it's still going on despite it taking 24 hours for ever order, retreat or build!
I think in future we should switch on the option for draws that do not have to include all survivors.
That said, I'm enjoying it; despite the risk of coming away from the game with nothing. Turkey is putting up a tremendous fight but I think he just cracked there at the end if 1912. -

Registered 14 years agoEeek. I'd have thought with three of you left you'd be able to move faster. Particularly on retreat/build phases. -

Registered 14 years agoIt means that you could all agree a draw proposal for say 2 nations but would not need to see it out until the bitter end. As it stands now, England and France couldn't agree a draw until Turkey is removed entirely.
As for the speed of the game, it's one player taking 24 hours for every turn. I'd kind if worked out who it was in 1904 but I suppose everyone plays at a different pace and some have more pressing real life commitments etc. -

I've had a quick scan and Tammany Hall is available as play-by-web over at www.slothninja.com. I've not played it but heard good things about the board game; which is very difficult to get hold of at the moment. -

/goes off to google what it is
I tried to set up a game of diplomacy with a few friends.
Got 5 interested. Got them all past the poor interface and site design for sign-up.
Then as the game started, one guy didn't check his mail over the weekend. He was auto-surrendered and the game went back to "waiting for players".
I set up a new game but nobody bothered signing into it except for me and the guy that cause the first game to go tits up.
So close. -

Registered 7 years agoI'd be willing to give a new game a go. Would someone be able to give us a run through of the rules/basic tactics? -

Registered 14 years agoIt's 5 player max. The rules are online and are only 6 pages long - shouldn't be too difficult to learn. Rules
I'm in the same boat having never played it. Perhaps we could start up a test game. Play a few rounds to get the rules down etc.

If any new players fancy it i would be happy to give you a tutorial of how the game works, how to use the website and some basic tactics if you wanted. -

Registered 9 years agoHi guys,
I would love to get back into this, and can absolutely promise that this time I would spend a lot more attention with it and not miss a turn (last time round I kept getting really distracted because of work and stuff). I was wondering about it the other day actually, and with my IRL boardgame group now disbanded due to a couple of people moving, any boardgame action would be awesome.
Also, it would give me a great jumping off point for something I was thinking about.

Registered 14 years agoI'm in the middle of a Tammany Hall game. One game on the go is probably enough.
It also has the added benefit of not having to message people and wait for replies and stuff before your move. -

Registered 7 years agoMy problem with Tammany Hall was that it didn't suit playing it online as it was such a quick game. I enjoyed it but it's not a game that is meant to drag. Whereas diplomacy is always a slow game, so the fact you have a day to negotiate makes sense.
So far there are 3 of us, we can delay the start if necessary -
