A terribly boring topic...but has any done this recently. Any problems with signing in to Xbox Live afterwards? It looks like i'll be forced to upgrade soon so i may aswell do it now which is why i'm wondering if there's any pitfalls i can avoid with some advice from you lovely people.

    Cheers.

I got forced last week. MS literally gagged me and bent me over the virtual HTTP stack.

    Still hurts...

Dont just click buttons. I lost my hotmail address of like 15 years because I razzed through the options too quickly.

Converted mine a couple of months back and haven't had any issues. Kept my Hotmail address rather than switching to an Outlook one, though.

Should still be there as an alias address which can be changed back to your primary, sign in and all.

    Back to the OP.

Everything works as before. Just a new look and features.

Ha. It's a sign, bullet dodged. Just ignore it and try another time, not going to brighten your day.

Shame it only shows the mobile site for Outlook if you're using an older Mac (10.4) and can't run the latest versions of the main browsers.
Fortunately I have another useful PC but the Mac thing is a bit irritating if I'm using it for work.

I was forced into the "upgrade" last week. Managed to change back using a different URL, but that once switched the next day too. It's not unusable or anything, but I preferred the old look. Still got my live.co.uk email address too. It didn't even offer to set me up a new one.

I changed it about 6 months back, new email, all easy.

I got asked to update my security info earlier. Bit sceptical. Basically they wanted to send me a code (Via text) so i could access my account - or my account would be blocked until i did. Considering this is my main email account for all things i was a bit annoyed. (my old email adress is long gone) I have searched the internet and it seems generally a part of the update service MS are doing.

Just felt a bit dodgy. But seems to be fine. Anyone else had to do this?

@joelstinton Yeah I had to do it through Windows 8 last week, it wouldn't leave the 'important notifications' section until I did. I had a four digit code e-mailed elsewhere, plonked it in and nothing to do with Microsoft asked me to do it again.

    Yeah.

The amount of stick MS got for the FIFA 'hacking' debacle, can't blame them really for significantly upgrading their security policies.

So, if anyone's got a domain and was thinking about letting outlook.com handle the email, my suggestion is don't. After setting one up that was previously handled by Google Apps, Microsoft proceeded to automatically delete all my aliases for my signed-in Microsoft account and replace it with a generic myname@outlook.com one, refusing to let me change it to anything else. After speaking to Microsoft they just said "well, that's the way it works. You can put the alias back on your account in six months". Yeah, thanks for that.

I still use my Hotmail address. It's been my main account since '99 so it would be a hassle to move away from it.

I had two hotmail addresses that I made in 98/99.

joey_jo_jo_jnr_shabadoo@hotmail.com and the one I have now after I realised I just couldnt be arsed to type an email address that long or indeed give it to people without looking like a cunt.

You can find my Geocities page by searching for "thelzdking's leggy blondes with technogel fansite" on Lycos. I'm on ICQ too.
