Well im looking into getting a part time job whilst studying for an Msc but I dont really want to over work myself and sacrifice any hope of getting a descent grade in my masters. Whats everyones experience with balancing a part time job and studying? I've only really done it at A-level and that was hardly taxing. MCM |
How many hours should students work?

Registered 19 years agoI thought you meant in terms of work for your course. I work pretty much every day from whenever my first lecture is up until after 5 in the evening then do a little bit of reading at home. No way would I have time to have a job as well. My flat mate is doing a law course and has a job in a local pub, though. He works about 10 hours a week, I think. -

I would rather have lived on baked beans han had a job while I was at Uni. I felt realy sorry for my flat mate evertime he went to work, when we all sat in the lounge playing NFS on he 3do, laughing at him.
Ah. But he was learning to socialise on more levels and maybe pulled more chicks whilst getting paid... -

Registered 20 years agoI never had a job while at uni. It would have gotten in the way of all that free time. -

I have succesfully avoided not having a job for almost 4 years now through uni and now half way through my masters. It has ofcourse left a huge mark on my bank balance i.e. im running out of the interest free portion of my £1500 overdraft. I have managed to create extra cash by selling mobiles I get on upgrade a few months after using them, but that wont be enough anymore.
Seems 10 hours a week is the norm... -
