Er yeah, title say it all really. Looking to buy a new phone soon, and wanted to know what people have got and whether they loved or hated it !

Looking for something fairly small really, not too worried about loads of features. I think its time i diverged my gadgets.

Onestopphoneshop.com are doing a free K500i at the moment with 120 x network minutes daytime, and 120 minutes x network evening + 1000 evening texts.

Decent phone, has pretty much everything except bluetooth.

Oh, and it's 12 months free line rental via cashback.

    Nokia 6230.

It's a Nokia, so it works. I'm never, ever, going to purchase anything from anyone but a major player in the mobile market again.

It's also got the latest features, phone, camera, expandable memory (up to 1 gig), video camera, MP3 player, radio, bluetooth... etc. etc.

It's small too. Nice and pocket sized. Oh and it's cheap (free with most contracts).

The features that sold it to me were it's size, bluetooth, and the fact it was by Nokia.

I'll vote for the 6230 too. Pound for pound the best phone right now. I've tested most of the latest models too, and its the one that I bought.

Should clarify really that it's the best phone IMO for using as a phone. If things like this are going to be a problem then I can't really help.

It is a vast improvement over the other Series 40 devices (6100, 7210, et al) but at the end of the day it's just a 128x128 pixel colour screen.

As the others are saying - great as a phone, and has some fantastic features. Not so great as a smart phone, but not everyone wants or needs that.

I use most of the latest models on a daily basis and find it hard to figure out how anyone could pick a 6230. The only thing really in its favour is the replaceable covers - for those that don't like phone cases.

Even if you just use the C500 as a basic phone its excellent. Voice quality it top notch, as is reception. The interface is superb for making calls.

I develop for all of the latest models on a daily basis, and I find it hard to figure out how anyone can have much of a problem with the 6230? ;-)

It's a phone with MMC storage, MP3 player, etc. etc. What's not to like?

Personally, I'm a big fan of the Sony Ericsson K700i right now. That's a nice phone - but the 6230 fills a niche nicely also.

You pays yer money, you takes yer choice. :)

I love my S700i - superb screen, excellent camera, bluetooth, mp3 player - very stylish. The memory stick duo expansion doesn't harm either.

Feel a touch of pride when the latest Sony Ericsson trendy adverts are on featuring it.

What about the 6600? In the same position as SDW....would prefer a Nokia as I like their UI.

I've got one of Oranges new 3g phones - the LG U8150, and I quite like it.

Oh, and I've got a really good condition P900 for sale if you're interested. I liked it (great for watching southpark on the tube) but found I really wanted something a little smaller and sacrifice on the features.

Because there are cheaper and better alternatives that do all the above and more if you want - including the K700i. Or the SE new flip one thats name escapes me.

Agreed. But the 6230 is marginally smaller (which matters to some) and also vastly simpler (which matters to most).

As I say - horses for courses. If it were me, I'd pick the K700i or the Z1010 (I think that's the new clam shell you're referring to?). However, my missus loves the 6230 and a good friend of mine loves the simplicity of his old 6100.

Yeah, thats what i'm after i've got a Motorla A925, but i want something small again. I don't use any of the PDA type stuff enough to warrant it.

SPV 500, with a 512MB MiniSD memory upgrade on it (£50) with Orange. Free phone with Orange (120 x network minutes daytime, and 120 minutes x network evening + 1000 evening texts costs £25 a month on a 12 month contract)

Unbeatable. The only thing missing is a megapixel Camera (and Media Player 10 in this country, but Orange are working on an updage apparently).

4 hours of film (which can be watched on 1 battery charge too). Christ knows how much mp3 playing or Picture storage that works out to.
Free with a 12 month contract with Orange.
    under 100g weight.
MASSIVE (For the size of the phone) screen.
Tiny dimensions, less mass than a razr v3.
and it's a Microsoft phone, so you get the start button (familiar menus to most of us windows users), Windows SDK app development (you can even make you own apps quite easily if you can code), great battery life, ActiveSync (Email, contacts, calendar etc all in sync with your PC)
Bluetooth, Loudspeaker (for in car speaking), infared, USB, 1 touch camera button, Atari, NES and other emulators...

Jesus, the list goes on and on!

Yeah, not a bad handset. The 6630 (same basic handset but with uprated Java and 3G support) is available also, if 3G is a consideration.

AFAIK the 6600 and the 6230 really are identical. Like Phattso says, the 6630 is better as it has the 3G stuff.

Bull. Even with your stubby hobbit type fingers you'd be able to use one.

Cheers. 3G is no biggie at all, and more importantly, I don't want to pay a penny. 6230 is sounding ideal.

For those having a Homer moment.

It has a shite screen. Its a quite simple point but perfectly true when you compare it against the competition.

Gah - the 6630 doesn't have proper video call support - you have to get an base station with an extra camera, as it doesn't have a forward facing camera on it (ie one that points at you when you are making video calls, looking at the screen).

Fine if you just want data though.

    I have a SE k700i.

    Brilliant phone.

I personally think the SE software works better than nokia's.

I can confirm this cos i have some new peesashit black nokia phone courtesy of work that's a fricking pile of crap in comparison.

    Go Sony Ericsson!

It's perfectly fine for it's intended purpose. It's a phone, the screen functions fine for a phone. You may be inclined to carry a 42" plasma screen around in your pocket. I'm quite happy with being able to see who's calling and read text messages. Oh and the colours make it pretty too.
