@yegon Yeah, I sold my 3G complete with iOS 4 to a friend for 100 quid (it was a little broken, too) and she was absolutely delighted. She uses it to this day, if I'm not mistaken. |

Registered 18 years agoCrikey. I'm all for long lived devices but that shows patience.
Then again, take ourselves away from techy interest and gadget lust, it's still a phone that can act as an iPod, text/email and browser, which is still leagues ahead of a dumb phone. -
iPhone 5s froze while trying to update to 7.0.3 -- had to do a factory reset/restore. Fuuuu, Apple! Fuuuu! -

Registered 8 years agoHave a 5s but just picked up a 16GB yellow 5c for a bargain price. Am finding that the fingerprint recognition with the s is a bit rubbish as it works flawlessly for a day but then it seems to forget the print and I have to reprogram it. I know the processor is much better in the s but as I've just got a MacBook Air and also ordered the new Mini I'm sorely tempted to out it at a decent price....the battery life on the c is awesome as well. -

This. What'd you expect? The phone NOT to freeze because of an upgrade?

I got the 5c because I've just bought an Air and I didn't want to pay £230+ plus to upgrade plus £30 a month. I don't regret it one bit. The c is a big upgrade from the 4 and like you say, the battery life is much better than I'm used to from an iPhone.

Anyone know if they're fixing the Safari landscape/portrait/landscape "feature" soon? It's the only thing that I don't like about this version
-
@TarickStonefire Say I'm browsing Eurogamer...shocking, I know, and I have my iPhone turned to landscape orientation in my hand. If I close down Safari and then reopen it, it continues to show in landscape for a fraction of a second, then spins to portrait (which is now sideways, you'll appreciate) and then back to landscape again.
It's as if it remembers what I wanted, then tried to force a default of portrait, then realises I'm still holding the phone in landscape after all. -

... must admit though that whilst it never happened during my first week with the iPad Air, I am now starting to get the occasional Safari crashes, often after I attempt to open a fourth or fifth tab.
Lost a whole message on both here and on the Guardian because of this!
I'm starting to think Apple should have chucked in one extra gigabyte of RAM because 1GB (of RAM) is clearly starting to struggle with the demands of 'heavy' websites.

@Moot_Point No new problems here, but I'm still getting the annoying spinning Safari thing, as described above. Plus, is it me or is autocorrect a bit more enthusiastic than it used to be? Seems to change my deliberate capitalisation into an "a" quite often. For example "Football" might become "a football". -

Registered 9 years agoMight hold off for a while yet then. I like the auto-correct feature, spellcheck and auto-capitalization are excellent. -

Registered 15 years agoI am now livid with ecstasy. And I absolutely have to share my joy with someone. Since there's nobody where I'm at (much less anyone who could understand me anyway), the forum it is.
Apple broke CalDAV with iOS 7 and, as it turned out later, they also broke it in iOS 6 somehow, even though it used to work well before. Which meant I lost my work calendars first on my iPad and then on my iPhone, as I updated them to the latest OS (had to update the phone because of incompatible file formats in new 7-only versions of the iWork apps). Well, today I finally got my shit together and modified the calendars to comply with Apple's new unnecessary (and, apparently, out-of-spec) requirements. Which they don't have in Mavericks, by the way, since the calendar there works fine. The fuckers.
Anyway, 5 minutes with the terminal were enough to restore joy to my world. When their stuff works, it's glorious. When it doesn't, though... Which is a problem with all proprietary software, I suppose. But it's really good to have my calendars with me again..gif)
I was really worried my iPhone 4 would become unbearably slow with the new OS, too, and I was sort of right. Really jerky animations all around, to the point I had flashbacks to my 3G on iOS 4. It's almost fine again, though, now that I've enabled the reduce motion option. -
So iOS 8 gets announced today? Will they completely rework the abomination that is iOS7 or will it be just new icons? -

Registered 11 years agoI went back to iOS 6 on my friends iPad a few weeks after using iOS 7.
... it was tremendously awful. The newest version, bar some of the preschool looking icons, is the best thing Apple ever did. In iOS 8, we shall see the polishing up of some of iOS 7’s rough edges while introducing a number of key new features such as the Heathbook bobbins.
I am not expecting too much from iOS 8 though as it will be the Mac OS X that shall likely be the headline act at WWDC today. -
