130 million customers in the past year bought their first Apple device.

"Now many of these customers were switchers from Android. They had bought an Android phone by mistake... and then had sought a better experience, and a better life."
    Urgh.

It's true though. I bought an iPhone 4 and my dick grew three inches.

Yup, totally agree. My left hand isn't used to getting much of a workout.

Plus it looks like it is going to integrate with Nike+ - I was hoping for an iWatch solution, so it was all integrated.
    Like this.

I have all my runs and cycles (which makes me sound very fit and active!) on Cyclemeter. I can link it to sensors for heart rate and stuff if I wanted but I'd rather have an all-in-one Apple device.

Some decent, albeit long overdue, functionality.

The cross device stuff with 10.10 looks good, particularly the phone call/mac integration and activating phone tether from the mac.

The recents/faves above the multitasking is an obvious indicator of bigger phones incoming (edit: actually scratch that, I've just noticed the big chunk of empty space above the current implementation).

Re: the health stuff, iWatch blah blah is likely a part of it but they were never likely to announce that at a dev event. It'll be interesting to see what people find in the ios8 beta.

You mean 7.1.2 considering we are currently on 7.1.1?

... it was a mixture of good things and seen-it-all-before things that we already have on Android and Windows Phone 8, although Apple puts that extra little bit of quality and thought into it.

The Heathbook bobbins was surprisingly brief. Makes you wonder if it is waiting for a particular new piece of hardware to demonstrate and show it off a little bit more. The rest of iOS 8 is developers handiwork, not consumers.

I like that Craig chap; he comes across like he is the CEO of Apple!

    : )

For reasons I don't understand 'cos my programming experience began and ended with BASIC, I suspect the announcement of a new programming language is actually the biggest deal, far beyond all the other stuff combined.

I know for certain John Siracusa will have had conniptions when that was announced, ha.

Yeah, I'm wondering if we're not getting an iwatch after all now.

That quote lacks context. Both the "by mistake" and "and a better life" parts were said jokingly.

Not that they don't believe iOS is the second coming nevertheless;)

Do Apple have the monopoly on proper phone sized phones?

Wish I'd known that, before I'd bought this HTC which is big enough to do everything I wanted but small enough to easily (read:easily) work one handed.

Considering it's the Worldwide Developers Conference I'm surprised anyone was holding out for product announcements.

As yegon mentioned above, the announcement of Swift was probably the biggest deal and also explains what Apple have been doing with the compiler tech for the last few years. Exciting times for people in my line of work.

That said, Objective-C is an excellent language that I wasn't looking to move away from. I'm not looking forward to an influx of script kiddies who couldn't figure out memory management before now flooding the platform. :)

Yeah, been rumoured for a long time now. Pisser really - even the 5S was a bit big for me.

But even the smaller of the two is rumoured to be a step up from the 5S.

Apple are idiots without Steve. iOS7 and iOS8 are way too girly, the handset has been the wrong size since the iPhone 5.

I kept my 4s and ios6 but I shake my head each time they fail to realise these two obvious fuck ups.

Sorry apple but its over. Ill probably get an experia or something when my 4s dies (or maybe another 4s second hand if anyone else has kept it at ios6).

Given that Apple's key rivals never seem to push anything past beta in the case of Google, and appear to be actively 'unovating' in the case of Microsoft, they should be alright for a while yet.

@atomicjuicer how can an operating system be too "girly"? Does an interface need to be made out of wood, hammers, and Yorkie bars for it to be acceptable?

I very much doubt the old form factor will go away, the 5S and the 6 will exist in tandem IMO.

My wife definitely wouldn't want a larger phone, she thinks my S5 is stupid.
