Registered 16 years agoThese links are no longer 'normal' adverts (if they ever were). They are now fake news stories of the 'One Weird Old Tip' variety. Please remove them from the site or make them more obviously non-eurogamer approved gumph.
If you don't you are a part of the problem and I hate you now. -

I would happily pay a £1 - yes, a whole £1 - a year to get rid of ads. Instead I use adblock for free. Wait, I forget what point I'm trying to make here...

Really not a fan of these either to be honest.. -

question is though would this effect EG's business model at all blocking out all the big side ads? -

I'd can see clearly that it recommends things people actually click, every link has an alluring headline or thumbnail followed by a disappointing article.
I'd be much less peeved if it recommended things people actually read.
Secondly, you do yourselves a great disservice putting this crap directly underneath your links to related eurogamer stories. Unlike "More from the web...", EG actually contains well written and interesting articles.
Now, at the bottom of every story there's a 3x2 grid of links where the top row link to interesting stories and the bottom row link to crappy stories with interesting headlines. -

Registered 20 years agoHey guys.
Sorry the Outbrain stuff upsets you. I wrote something about it on a comment thread but I'll repost here:
For those wondering, the "You may also like..." section is powered by Outbrain, which we're trialling as a way of handling related content (the first row of internal links) and paid links (the second row of external suggestions). We have the ability to block domains and topics if we're not happy with the content being displayed (for example, we've blocked all the UK tabloids to avoid sexist/hate-mongering rubbish) but some slip through and we have to deal with them once we see them or they're pointed out.
Why have them at all, you might ask? For now it's an experiment. If we ultimately decide the balance is too hard to strike, or we just plain hate them, we'll get rid of them. But as our sales guys often have to turn down advert deals because I won't accept stuff like interstitials, advertorials or things that cover the whole frontpage content area by default (all pretty common on other gaming sites), when they find a passive and relatively benign way of bringing in extra cash I don't mind trying it. I still veto far more than I allow.
Anyway, we appreciate your patience while we find the balance and we'll do our best to reduce the number of inappropriate or irrelevant links to as close to zero as possible.

Rest of the ads on the site are at least game related though. These have nothing to do with gaming whatsoever I think so appear even more jarring. It cheapens the experience of browsing the site IMO but I totally understand why you're trialling it. I'm one that doesn't really like them. -

"Angry mob undresses woman and rip her clothing after she dressed provocatively (Your Jewish News)" still sounds pretty terrible to me. I'd probably pay to get this site ad free.

Registered 14 years agoThe internal "You may also like.." what is that based on? I used to always get a sexy bottom article from either Dead or Alive or Fire Emblam. Now I'm getting both I'm sure if their was a 3rd sexy bottom article I would get that soon and have tri-arse below every article I read.
If I wanted to see ladies bottoms there are far better places on the internet to look, is it based on my profile? I do like ladies bottoms but I don't think its representative of 1000's of articles I view on EG. -

If your diet consisted of just eating bamboo all the time I doubt you'd want to inflict that misery on future generations either.
