Benchmarks

Is there a site that just features loads of benchmarks for various bits of kit - processors, graphics hardware, etc.?

The only benchmarks I can find appear to compare 'entire PC systems'. I'm trying to figure out what I need from a computer but those kinds of benchmarks are useless to me because I don't have anything to compare them against.

I'm 'out of the loop' as far as PC hardware goes, I just want to see a list which says 'this is better than that and that is better than this', with some quanitification of 'better'.

    Any ideas?

I sat on a bench once. It left a right old mark.

ardOCP are pretty good for benching kit, specifically individual items rather than systems.

Beyond3D is excellent for graphics cards reviews, they're very technical though as they really know their stuff.

SiSoft Sandra does that, I think. You can download a freeware version from the site (again I have to say "I think", because I'm out of touch myself).

A good list of benchmarks can be found here.
