Registered 20 years agoFUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!! Got to 498 Population, working towards the 500 pop achievement and I suddenly get a massive starvation die off.
I tought it would sort itself out but the problem was exponential. But the time I quit, people were dying by the bucket load nad I only had 190 population left
. Fuuuuuuu!!! Don't get over confident and build about 80 homes when you have nearly 100,000 food. It won't end well. :/

Registered 15 years agoYeah, always make sure you expand your food production before your population...
Had my first fire last night, destroyed half of my city
Luckily I am keeping all my resources spread out so no massive losses occurred, no deaths either .gif)
Got 200 pop. on a really nice map with tons of plains to expand on but I am getting a little bored now, full happiness and health, 20 labourers, stockpiles full of wood, iron, stone and coal and I am growing every kind of crop. Just waiting for the animal trader to stop by. -

Registered 15 years agoHerbalists are a pain in the arse. They need old forests so you can't have a forester nearby or they gather fuck all.
When you get over 150 people you need to start redesigning your city and having dedicated areas for forestry, food etc otherwise it becomes a nightmare to stay on top of everything. Sometimes a fire can be a blessing in that respect.

Registered 15 years agoYeah, the deer constantly trot through my city...
Not sure why your houses aren't filling up, may be the cnsequences of some historic action?Do you have single people ('children') of marrying age (which is quite young...) available to move in?
I think you have to be constantly expanding slowly, rather than in booms, otherwise your residents get too old to have kids. I had a similar problem that sorted itself out but it took a while.
I only got my nomads after I hit 150 pop with full happiness. I'm not saying that's the criteria, just my experience. -

Registered 15 years agoI experimented with it and it seemed to be ok, I recommend building seriously large stockpiles of food though, about a quarter of my citizens are farmers -

Hmm ye olde worldy Sim City, i am intrigued.

Pretty sure it's drm free on the dev site. Plus I reckon the developer would get the full cut from their site.
Get it from GoG, same price as the dev site price (in dollaru) drm free!

Registered 15 years agoI bought this yesterday and got my population to 50 fairly straight forward.
Few questions, when is the best time to invest in schools? I added one early to keep yields higher.
And is there a minimum number of labourers to keep on hand? I tend to only ever have one and just keep expanding the industries. Trying to avoid baby booms.
My GF wasnt happy that all the fishermen's wives keep dying in child birth. -

Registered 20 years agoSchools are important to have from early on imo, they increase production 50%. I always try to have about 2-3 labourers on hand early on but have 1-2 once I switch from Hunter Gatherer to an Agrarian food production. This is because the farmers can perform labourer tasks after harvest, and you need to keep to have a spare person in case your teacher dies unexpectedly. -

Registered 20 years agoI find that multiple trade posts are great for storing food long term during times of abundance. It serves as a safety buffer for future expansions. Started a new town last night, left it at almost 300 population and have 120,000 food stored. It's a little experiemental as I'm trying to see if I can survive on trading for stone, iron and coal instead of mining for it. It's working so far, because my workforce is mostly making food, it's actually easier. -

I'm up to about 600 people. I've had a stable increase in population up until now, with always about 30% students and children. I only got into a bit of trouble a little while after letting in 60 nomads. For some reason my tool production was suddenly woefully inadequate, and before I could build several more blacksmiths nobody had tools any more and building anything took forever.
My map is pretty full now, can't really grow much more.
Yields from fields definitely go down with time. But I don't know what to do about it. Does it help to switch to another crop or should you rebuild the fields eventually?
