I keep getting odd phone calls on my mobile. A withheld number phones, i answer it and it then the phone hangs up. Just then i had another - i tend to answer it because a mate phones from work, with a withheld number - and rather than just hanging up, i caught a quick burst of a phone ringing. Then nothing. I can't see that it's anything dodgy or anything, but has anyone ever experienced anything like this? |

Are you sure it's not those dodgy sales calls, when they call you even before they have someone free to speak to you. The result is you end up shouting "Hello" down the phone, until they pick up and say "Hi, Mr Hunt, let me tell you about the great offers..."

No! Don;t hang up on them!
Just say...
"Oh, could you hold on a sec..." then mute them and carry on doing what you're doing...
See how long it takes them to hang up... Costs them money... -

I meant that for Mike... If he gets a sales call, don;t hang up...
For you however... Dunno... Can you call your service provider and get them to trace it (even though call withheld is activated, I think they can trace the call if a law is being broken (Stalking/public nusence etc))... -

Registered 20 years agoprobably what kalel said.
Some of the auto dialers hang up if they don't receive a signal almost the instant the call is answered.
Saves you from the situation my grandad had where a superstore computer used to call him at 2 am every morning and make loud modem noises at him. Took weeks for them to sort it out. -

Probably the stupidest thing to do if it's a dialer. You're the one paying for the call and at $13 a minute to somewhere in the West Indies you'll get fleeced.

I recommend you examine your bill and not publicise your number on any websites that 'require' it for registration.
Can they do that?
/gulp
I only do that from home... don't get those calls on my mobile... -

You get it from time to time on O2. I suspect its some marketing thing ringing to see if the number is valid.
Thats how they usually create the phone lists. Get a computer to dial as many numbers as possible and see which ones are actually active, then add that number to the list.
Does the number not display on the mobile before you pick it up? Mine always says Call, which is definitely coming from O2. -

I think i'm on three so far today - two yesterday.
And i'm on T-mobile, not O2. -

Registered 17 years agoHeh just googled this problem and this was the first site it came up with. I'm on o2 and having the same problem. As someone mentioned that they are on T-Mobile though i'd guess it's nothing to do with the network.
Only dodgy thing that i reluctantly signed up for recently was that free sms service (sms.ac?), did any of you guys sign up for a similar thing? i wonder if it was anything to do with that. -

Registered 17 years agoCockney_Chris - the sms.ac service can almost be classed as a virus as it can also hook into MS Outlook / Outlook Express and sends a mail asking everyone in your contact book to sign up - also they send unsolicited SMS's at a cost to you of about 50p per message and it is very difficult to unsubscribe - pop sms.ac into google and have a look.
Try and get out asap - unfortunately the old saying - there's no such thing as a free lunch (or SMS) is very true in this case. -

a warning, my sister signed up to that not long ago and she started getting texts every 5 mins or so and after about half a day she was getting annoyed and decided to see what was happening. she then found out that each text she got cost £2.50 out of her phone bill! and then she called O2 and tryed to get them to cancle the text thingie and it took ages... in the end it cost her about £45. free texts my arse! -

Registered 17 years agoi've just received (although it looked like i was making) a very strange call on my mobile. It was ringing and came up with the word "BITES" in huge letters on my screen. i tried to ring the number back but it said all calls to this number were barred...very strange.. -

doesnt' work, the owner of the phone has to authenticate the membership, via a text message which is sent to them
