It's not just him, though. And besides, arguments aren't made invalid just by virtue of the person arguing them.

(not saying that I agree with his assessment)

Loved it, but cant buy the 3D version until MS and Sony decide to add the support to their newer consoles.  While it obviously wont be up to cinema standard I think if I pull the couch up to the 50" plasma, turn off the lghts, crank the 5.1 and don the active shutter glasses, it may be a fair approximation.

I should probably make the floor sticky with spilt coke though, then blank out the screen every 5 mins pretending folk are going past to the loo.  Maybe let the kids play in the room to simulate those who like to talk during a film.

Yep, wont be anything like the cinema, thank god.

Srsly tho, Prometheus' 3D was amazing at home (film was ok) so expecting this to set a new benchmark for 3D at home and at least give me a reason to buy my 4th ever 3D blu ray.

Just watched it.The story was simple, but I don't actually have a big problem with that (accuracies aside, but then this is Hollywood). We are always expecting some sort of surprise, but is it necessary? Yeah the characters were shallow, but then there wasn't enough dialogue to build them anyway.

Good film, though I was close to drifting off with the hallucinating. Had done enough by then.

That bit does drag, a few posters reckon she actually died there and the rest of the film are the last moments in her head. Personally, I was hoping for two Apes on horseback :/

Possibly. May have even died at the start too, but to be honest it doesn't really matter and I think one ends up over speculating. Doing so adds nothing to the story or film.

I liked the way it ended. Perfect time to cut the scene.

Personally I found there was a more character development than I was expecting from the reviews I've read. And much of that happened in the Soyuz (and I really didn't mind the slowing of pace after all the action before it). Could easily have chopped off a couple minutes off the end though, but I didn't mind the ending when it came (if that makes any sense).

I mean, it's not a character led film, clearly, but it was more than just a dumb action flick, and I appreciate that.

Possibly stupid question about the 3D Blu Ray - can you play it in 2D if you so wish?

I've no experience of buying 3D BD's, not typically a fan of 3D at all, but saw Gravity in 3D at the cinema and really enjoyed it. Kind of curious to how it'll translate to my 55" tv, but would like the ability to watch it in ye old faithful 2D as I've got a very low irritation threshold where 3D is concerned.

Yeah, I think all 3D blurays have the 2D version included.

I don't understand all the high praise myself. I lost the ability to suspend disbelief in the first half hour, so from then it just felt like a feature length tech demo. An impressive one, of course, but any tension was gone once it became clear she was basically invincible.

My gravity 3D BR came with both a 2D and 3D disc, which is nice.

The people in the Chinese cinema I watched it in thought he was, the way they whooped and hollered when they heard him speak, you would think he was the hero of the movie...

I enjoyed watching this with my kids the other night. I didn't really find it annoying in any way, easily pleased that's me.

Watched it last night, thought it was ace. OK, so some of the script is a little cheesy, and the plot is paper thin, but it was a hell of a ride and I wasn't the slightest bit bored. All good imo (8.5/10)

    Stop being a dick.
It's a good film in some ways, a bad film in others. My opinion is shared by many others, not sure why you're being such a whining bitch about it.

Watched it the other night too. It's the definition of a throw-away film. Entertaining and glad I watched it, but will not be watching it again.

All that stuff about her being dead seems like bit of a stretch, folk looking for hidden depth in a movie where there really isn't any. :/
The director/writers have never made any claims for it having an ambiguous ending like that.
And some of the shit like "Oooo when the ship re-enters the atmosphere, the red glow outside the craft symbolises such&such" is just utter balls.
    IMO of course.

If she was meant to be dead I don't think there would be a radio message about a rescue being on the way as the capsule sinks. Also we wouldn't have had the stuff where she was asking Kowolski to say hi to her daughter. The point was she gave up, decided to die, then fought through it and found a new sense of purpose. Emerging from the water was a rebirth - she was fighting to live for the first time her child died.

Totally this. JJ Abrams and, to a lesser extent, Christopher Nolan have a lot to answer for.

The modern trend of people analysing films to death in the belief that there are hidden messages and plot twists does my head in (same applies with TV shows as well, like Breaking Bad).

Cuaron has said that her emergence from the primordial soup at the end of the film symbolises the evolution of life. Take from this what you will:

Indeed there is. It's on the blu-ray as an extra. He is from Greenland which makes him inuit? His name, and the name of the short, is Anqianng (or something). It's worth a watch if you enjoyed the film. It's no more than 10 minutes long.

EDIT: Apologies to Razz. Viewing on mobile I didn't realise he had actually linked the short.

If she was dead you know how they would have ended the film - with her daughter waiting for her beside the lake.

I clicked on Razz's link and all it did was link to "What to watch".
