@mal CoM was just alright. I can't remember why I thought so but there were lots of little things that bugged me while watching it. I'd need to watch it again to elaborate though. Love Quaron though. He is one of my fave directors.

    Warning: spoilers.

    Astronaut picks apart Gravity.

As a shitty Kerbal Space Program player, I can attest to the fact that a rendezvous from the shuttle to the ISS would be nightmarish, and impossible in an EVA suit. The part where Bullock just aims her sights at the Chinese space station and goes straight towards it made me roll my eyes a bit.

    Blimey, who'd have thunk it.
Hey I enjoyed it. It was tense and it looked stunning. And I'm not operating under the pretense that I'm smarter than the director. I just like picking movies apart; it's fun and it gives me greater insight into them.

Just saw it at the BFI IMAX introduced by Mr Cuaron himself. Pretty awesome stuff, I can't imagine it having quite the same impact on a smaller screen though. The script does veer a little too far into schmaltzy territory but that'd be about the only complaint.

By smaller screen, do you mean a normal cinema screen or a telly?

Just back from seeing this. Enjoyed it immensely. Few things annoyed me though.

Why does Clooney float off into space? Surely if he detaches himself he would just float there in the exact same position? There's no force acting upon him.

Looks stunning, shame it wasn't filmed in hdr. Script is pretty terrible. The floaty space bits are great.

Fantastic film marred by a script written by Sixth Form students.

... a shame the trailer for Gravity (before Thor: The Dark World) shows almost the crash/explosion in its entirety.

Not sure why this is getting astonishingly rave reviews.

George Looney was quite jarring in in role too; needed someone different for his part, me thinks.

The sound design was so good as well. The beginning before it cut to silence.

It's such a technical tour de force. Unlike anything I've seen in the cinema.

The script and characters do occasionally let it down a bit, but I really don't think it's anything like as bad as some people are making out. It's good if sometimes cheesy.

Yep, good to see a film that pretty much meets expectations set by the hype. An incredible achievement for all those involved.

So, did she really live, or am I looking for ambiguity where there is none?

    Truly an excellent film.

Shudder to think what Cuaron would do if he made an Alien film in 3D.

My gf hates 3D in the Cinema and I would usually also prefer 2D but this is only available in 3D.
How do you rate it in 3D, is it likely to be enjoyable for a 3D hater?

I saw it in 2D as 3D glasses don't fit over my normal glasses anyway and usually I prefer 2D. I did listen to Mark Kermode's review though, and he did point out that as much as he thinks 3D is utterly rubbish and pointless, you should make an exception in this case as apparently it's pretty incredible.

    He still had momentum.

This is not normally a problem with IMAX glasses. They are so large that they sit quite nicely on my nose in front of my glasses.

Regarding the film, I thought it was stunning. The plot was simple but the tension, natural dialogue, amazing cinematography with the constantly moving camera and sound was engrossing.

I particularly liked how the camera moved from static, watching Bullock spin away, to being in sync with her with the universe spinning to moving close up, then inside her helmet, changing perspective and then out again. It really added to the feeling of place and immersion.
