Who needs all that extra resolution when the best thing on Netflix is Star Trek TNG from nearly 30 years ago anyway? |

Registered 4 years ago4k is bees knees.
I just watched all TNG, Enterprise and finished off DS9.
Haven't done Voyager since I binge watched it off pirate DVDs in Thailand when I lived out there ten years ago. Might be time to give it another ago.
Me and the missus were trying to get through all of Buffy before it got taken off beginning of this month. We failed. Have had to take a Hulu trial subscription. Also doing Angel now. Actually superb TV.
Also, for something called Ironfist, it sure is hamfisted. The choreography is ridiculous and the martial arts of the main protagonist and his Japanese sidekick/love interest is pants. Still, I am enjoying it. -

Registered 6 years agoThe only real things I've watched in 4K are a couple of breaking bad eps and daredevil season 2. Dd especially was so awful to watch in 4K as the film grain is off the charts, which just degrades it all for me. It's not the revelation in general you may be expecting. It doesn't pop like some of the 4K store demos do, it's just fairly clean when not film grained to shit. -

Registered 9 years agoI've invested in a 4k tv last month and have the 4k content of netflix. I'm playing spot the difference at the moment to be honest. probably just because of the generally better quality screen than what I had but even the standard Hd stuff looks alot better now. -

Registered 16 years agoThe Marvel stuff does have a ridiculously heavy film grain which at 4K looks awful. There is some amazing 4K stuff on Netflix though, Marco Polo, Chefs Table and Abstract all look stunning. -

Registered 15 years agoQuite a few new additions, I noticed. The Magnificent Seven, Ben Hur, Nerve, Neon Demon. Can't vouch for any of them but they are at least current! -

Registered 11 years agoThat Ben Hur film is meant to be proper shite. Magnificent Seven is decent and I enjoyed Neon Demon although it's nowhere near NWR's best film. -

Registered 3 years agoThere's a documentary called Tower about the 1966 University of Texas shootings. It's an unusual mix of interviews with the survivors and animation, but it works quite well. -

Registered 3 years agoOoh I just realised that the episode of No Reservations where Anthony Bourdain and Josh Homme tear it up in the desert like freaky rock star badasses is on there now. -

Registered 14 years agoMagnificent Seven is, and this is just my opinion, pretty poor. It didn't make me care about the characters, not even Chris Pratt who is normally hard not to like. There's a jarring bit near the end where Denzel basically goes "and this is my motivation for all this!" rather than actually showing us through the film, or dropping hints or anything.
Also Donofrio seems to be a bit Brandoishly self indulgent but hey, maybe that's exactly what the director told him to do.
I think if you're remaking such a well known and loved film you really have to make something amazing, but this just seems like a by the numbers cowboy film. It's not the worst thing I've ever seen but I can't help but think why bother. -

Registered 3 years agoI don't like Chris Pratt in anything I've seen him in. I feel alone in this but he's always playing such total douchebags and not in a particularly endearing way either. -

Registered 6 years agoHe's hardly endearing there, well certainly in the first two seasons I've seen, probably him at his worst if that style grates. -

Registered 16 years ago@Jono62 I am wondering what they can possibly do to top the batshit of the collective sex scene of the first series but I am sure they will find something. -

Registered 3 years agoI've finally started watching Rick & Morty
I always assumed it'd be a bit Family Guy in the humour department but this is actually a lot of fun.
It's basically Doctor Who by way of Fairly Odd Parents, right? -

It's alright, started well but 18 episodes in and it resembles more and more a mix of a pedestrian version of 24 and a lite version of House of Cards.
Designated Survivor is really good.
It's still entertaining enough to keep me coming back though, mind. -

Registered 3 years agoWhose hyped for season five of House of Cards?
I know it's its own thing now but I can't help feeling it's lost something by going on so long. The original trilogy has a narrative arc that stretches and develops across it but this series feels like it's hit that plateau where because the end isn't in sight yet everything else is just kind of on hold meandering along. It's not unpleasant there is some good stuff but it's lost so much momentum. -

Registered 9 years agoI'm still very much looking forward to it. But I know what you mean, not sure what they can get out of it other than a possible rivalry between the Underwoods. Still, beats 90% of other series out there. -

I've managed to get Mindhorn working on Android:
Install ExpressVPN and use Toronto. There is a 7 day trial.
Don't know how long it'll be working for, mind.
