Watched the 10th episode of the good place earlier and I have to say itís certainly developed in ways you wouldnít think earlier on. Itís not exactly hilarious though. But that in particular was a tightly folded episode about ďloveĒ.

It's perfect TV to get you in a good/better mood. Agreed it's not exactly laugh a minute but I don't think every comedy needs to be.

Yeah, when it made the jump from sitcom to flipping the script was when it hooked me. I thought that was incredibly well done.

The characters are just very likeable. Slowly and quite subtly, they draw you in and I now want to know what happens. Am saving them up for a few weeks though.

It's the same as parks for me, rarely laugh out loud funny but just really good entertainment. Easy to watch and some great characters.

    The Let Down

An Aussie (or Kiwi) comedy about parenthood. If you have kids (and can remember what it was like when they were babies), this should have you in fits of laughter. Some pretty dark moments break up the comedy but it is definitely one of the funniest shows Iíve watched in ages. Not sure non-parents will enjoy it quite as much as they likely wonít relate but Iíd recommend it anyway.

FYI it has a fair amount of swearing and sex scenes so definitely not one to be watched around the kids.
Having had a kid this year this was right in our target zone.

First series is miles better than the second but I'd definitely recommend it

Finished Haunting of Hill House. Wow, that last episode, what a way to totally ruin a series. Worse than Lost!

Ash vs the Evil Dead season 2

Watched in one sitting. Just a fucking great time. In the words of one of the antagonists it's fine and filthy.

Bruce Campbell is fantastic as always but the rest of the cast are great too. The special effects are both icky, grim and hilarious. Raimi would be proud. The special effects put most blockbuster movies to shame. In both inspiration and application.

The casting of Ash's Dad is also spot on.

    An easy recommendation

Definitely showing on mine! For a second I thought it was a weird quirk where my (UK) VPN connection somehow brings up US Netflix but tried it on other devices without a VPN running and it's fine....

    Weird.

Most likely my end then. I'll reset the firestick once I'm done with the Xmas one.

Tim Allen is ooooold. I forget as I've only heard his voice in years

    Watched Devilman Crybaby.

That was really fucking good. The first few episodes rely a bit on being edgy and shock value, but the style is jarring and wilfully grotesque it's quite mesmerising. There's a lot of tonal shifts too, from purile comedy to more serious and sombre notes.

Story wise it starts of perhaps a typical anime "high-school teen gets super powers), but it takes some very unexpected twists.

But after the initial couple of episodes it was hard to watch, and they invest enough in the characters, so when ...things... happen later on I found it genuinely moving and emotional.

It's odd, and I can easily imagine some people would be put off, and that's understandable, but it's the first thing I've felt properly compelled to keep watching for a very long time.

I enjoyed what I watched but I found the art style hard to get used to after the great art in that last Devilman anime I watched years ago.

I will finish. @simpleexplodingmaybe. Hope you enjoy as much as I did!

The art style is an acquired taste. It's not bad but it's willingly harsh. I can easily see why it'd put people off!

In case anyone does a google search for i, still images don't do it justice at all; it looks quite shonky, but in movement it works for me. It has a looseness to it that I can really appreciate, especially compared to the over-sterile and rigid animation found in a lot of productions (especially in CGI based animes)

It definitely works as a very surreal take on the subject.
