It's more of a top-notch historical hat drama I think.

That's what I thought I was getting into! My watching partner is not keen on horror, so I guess I'll be watching it at random times in the wee hours!

It's enough of a period piece / costume drama that you could try to sell it as a sort of Korean Jane Austen-alike, with a ripped-from-today's-headlines pandemic slant.

    Has anyone watched Dark?

Tried the first episode last night, real Stranger Things season 1 vibes. The dubbing is a bit distracting though. I think we'll stick with it though.
It's my favourite show in years, is quite special.
    Final season in 3 weeks.

Don't watch it dubbed man, ruins it!

Dark is one of my favourite series of last few years. Didn't know season 3 was so soon, amazing.

I tried Dark a few times and didn't think much of it because of the awful dubbing - watched it with subtitles and it had me hooked.

Watched episode 2 with subtitles... much better! Thanks for the tips in here.

Why are people watching dubbed live action TV ever? Surely it's always going to be distracting.

    Jim & Andy.

Brilliant but I think I would have killed him if I was on set. That poor director! :)..

It made me angry watching that because of the sheer injustice of it all. It's an excellent watch though.

@TechnoHippy you should give the Jeffrey Epstein documentary ago, some absolutely collosal injustice in that.

A lot of the time it's because dubbing is the default and people don't realise

And, lets be honest, if you turn the dub on you can dick around on your phone while youre watching it.

There is that too. It's terrible really. Very few TV shows in particular where I am not doing that.

Yeah smartphones have made it almost impossible for me to watch stuff with subtitles. I just can't control the urge to have a quick look at my phone and before I know it I don't know what the fuck is going on.

Why do people do this? The phone thing I mean. What could be so important only finding out half an hour later would be a disaster? I don't even have the thing anywhere near me most of the time TBH, I just check it occasionally.

That said, I do tend to do something else while watching TV as well (e.g. ironing) so I get the subtitles thing.

Having the entire accumulation of human knowledge and discovery in a small rectangle of energy in my pocket is pretty distracting. You get to watch cats doing funny things and stuff.

It depends on the kind of show. There are some shows where you need to pay attention, even if the thing is dubbed. So I have subtitles on for those, because (all other things being equal) I prefer to watch things in their original language.

But if it's just something lightweight and fun, I put the dubbing on so I can fuck around and still basically know what's going on.

Letís face it most of tv these days just isnít engrossing enough to keep (certainly my) attention. That and Iíve probably got adhd or some shit.
Iím forever zoning out, picking up my phone (at usually a pivotal part in retrospect) Then asking wtf just happened.

For me, it's just habit. Being plugged into the internet all day should mean that I can easily put it aside for an evening, but habit keeps me checking just in case.

3 episodes in to Snowpiercer and it's starting to get a touch lame.

Also, if I can digress for a moment, what happened to Jennifer Connelly's big ass titties?

Yeah, I gave up half way through episode 3 last night. Just a bit dull, with no real development.

I do this all the time, usually if I'm not feeling engaged, or I feel like the story is treading water and wasting my time, or the dialog is clichťd placeholder crap and I'm not taking it in... then a character mumbles something crucially important and I miss it.

I thought space force was going to be terrible after the opening 15 minutes or so but I ended up really enjoying it.
It can seem a bit confused about which genre it trying to fit into and this shows by seemingly jumping from slapstick to drama. Itís definitely worth a watch though.

I tried Space Force, but it just wasn't funny or interesting enough to stick with.

13th is worth watching. Its about the 13th amendment in America and how it it used still treat black people as slaves. Tough watch at times.
