So as there's an 'Unpopular gaming opinions' thread, I'd like to start one for film. First up, I like Alien 3. It's admittedly not as good as the first two but it's definitely not a bad film. The story is decent and it has some pretty decent actor in it. It makes the Alien terrifying again. I get that Aliens is more of an action flick but it lost some of the horror that came with the first film. Loosely tied to the Alien films is... Amelie (directed by the guy behind Alien Resurrection). Amelie is pretty dull. Maybe I just don't get it. Personally, Thor is the best superhero film for years. Watchmen the film is shit. Can't speak for the graphic novels. |

Try telling an average person that the best film ever has subtitles. Many people will refuse to watch it because of this and will claim it is to large a crux to ever be considered great.

Registered 15 years ago@PazJohnMitch Ah, I see. The same argument can be made for City of God. Phenomenal film but as I learned from working for redbox (linked so you get what it is), most of the American customers wanted refunds on renting films with subtitles as they 'don't like to read a film.'
@Steve_Perry I'd agree with you on that. I just found Avatar to be nowhere near the level it had hyped up to have been. -

Registered 18 years agoI was annoyed at most of the characters AND the story in Avatar but I still enjoyed it a lot as it looked like any number of prog rock album covers

I'd stop now. Your opinions seem quite rational and supported.
Me ?
I don't care one iota for The Godfather and it's sequels. Not one jot. -

Here's some unpopular opinions - Usual Suspects is a boring shit film and Shawshank Redemption is above average at best.
There I said it!

@Ka-blamo I'd agree with that. TTSS is a drawn out, boring mess.

Really? I quite like the opening of WOTW, but I've never managed to last longer than about half an hour whenever I've started watching it on the telly.

Okay, my turn: The only good Tom Cruise film is Last Samurai. -

Registered 16 years agoI don't care for 2001: A Space Odyssey. I can understand why people do as it's certainly a great piece of film-making, but I just don't enjoy watching it at all.
I also enjoy many films others don't, especially superhero ones. Daredevil is one of my favourites in this category, though I also managed to enjoy Green Lantern, Batman & Robin, Spider-man 3 and Blade Trinity, despite them all being terrible in almost every measurable way. -

Registered 19 years agoThe vast majority of Ingmar Bergman's films are excruciatingly boring.
David Lynch is a talentless hack.
Traffic is shit.
Fargo is shit.
The Voyage Home is the second-worst Star Trek movie (after The Final Frontier, natch).
None of the pre-Craig Bond movies hold up today.
/edit/ Oh, and Jackie Brown is Tarantino's only good film.

Star Wars - The original trilogy is just as bad as the prequels. All six films are rubbish.
The Matrix Trilogy - Crap acting, boring plot, pretentious themes. No amount of expensive cgi could polish these turds.
Every single film Peter Jackson has directed has been shite.
