I could eat "a" horse, not I could eat horse. Have you eaten a horse in one sitting RyanDS?

    Goonies is merely ok
I think given its intended audience is children, it's an excellent film. It absolutely brilliantly captures the kind of childish fantasy we all had when we discovered a mysterious box in an attic or an old abandoned shack in the woods or whatever. Plus it also taps into other classic childhood experiences like fancying older girls etc. And it'd well paced with good characters and dialogue.

It's one of these films like ET that you just won't quite get if you see it for the first time as an adult. And yes, you can objectively judge these films in the same way you would judge other films aimed at an adult, but in the same way that a high art film is designed to stimulate a more sophisticated mind, some films are aimed to stimulate immature minds, and do it brilliantly.

But maybe you were judging it based on those parameters and if do fair enough, but it see a lot of people criticising films like The Goonies or Ferris Bueller or ET, and usually feel they're missing the point.

Eh? Surely opinions can be strange, no? If someone said to me 'I love fucking horses more than ladies', then I'd think that's a strange opinion.

Similarly, I've tried to watch The Princess Bride for the first time as an adult, and just can't get into it. I will one day.

I've tried getting my girlfriend to watch Princess Bride twice now and she never makes it more than 20 minutes. I have to say, I love it, but if I was to be really objective then I can totally see why someone going to it cold would find it hard going. The stuff I find charming (sets, cheesy lines, etc) is quite off-putting without the benefit of rosy memories.

I saw it for the first time as an adult, and loved it. I think I would have enjoyed it far less as a child as most of the humour that makes it so great would have gone straight over my head.

Yeah, the book is great actually. The version I read had a great intro by Goldman about how he 'adapted' the story from another book.

What's the probability of you hearing someone say that? I just read a guy eats horse and I don't call that strange ;)

    Inconceivable!!

Not an opinion on film as such but I love some of the Blu-Ray steel books. Ones such as these two.

    Sin City

    Blu-Ray :-)

I do like the artwork on some of them. I've also got a bit of a soft spot for artwork on the Mondo posters but as they're really expensive and get shipped over from Austin in Texas, I'm a lot more selective on buying these.

The Mondo posters are indeed lovely. My problem with them is the fact they sell out within thirty seconds of going on sale!

The Goonies is one of my favourite films of all time and I always enjoy it everytime I see it. I may be biased as the film is part of my childhood. ET I don't really care about.

Here is my unpopular opinions on film.

    Dune is a great movie.

The Meet the Parents films are an abomination of man kind.

    Goodfellas isn't a masterpiece

I don't think many people here realise where vizzini got his name from.

On reflection I'm pretty sure it's actually him.

I think my opinion of The Deer Hunter is probably my most unpopular opinion on film. It has some brilliant performances and some incredibly stunning shots, but otherwise it's an absolute mess of a film, and hideously racist.
