New notebook: Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pro V2000

Got a FS Amilo Pro V2000 a few days ago and it's my first laptop in over 5 years. The last one was an ultra-slim Dell which was good to write documents on but nothing else. Quite a lot has happened since then and the Amilo is very cool. I needed one for transfering large files (video/DVD projects) to clients and be able to make last minute changes to the projects on the spot, writing docs and use it to transfer/process pictures from the DSLR. It costed me 1300 €/£900 minus 25% since I got it on the firm, which is IMO a very good price.

I really hate short battery times, my idea of a good battery time is 2 weeks. This one lasts for 4 hours according to FS and I've been using it intensively (DVD-R/HD access while installing stuff) and 4 hours is not a problem at all. The graphics are good except for 3D stuff (which I haven't even bothered with yet) and divx/dvd playback produces a very good picture via the S-video out contact.

This forum is great BTW, I installed both FW and AV software based on the feedback from earlier threads, roxxor! \o/

Now for the fun stuff: found 3 (three!) unprotected WLAN networks from my apartment, two called "NETGEAR" and one called "TommyOchMarie" or smth like that! :) *makes note to self to protect the bloody WLAN hub when it arrives next week*

Also, from the manual: "The Class 1 laser device produces a beam... bla bla bla. It is dangerous to loo directly at this beam". :D

See if they have an open share on their computer as well and steal their home made pr0n!

And good luck with the machine, we got two very nice new FS laptops at work a few weeks ago. Got superb deals, they cut almost 8000 SEK per machine and threw in port replicators, just to get a foot in the door at the university (which has been dominated by Dell so far, but since Dell did a major fuck-up four months ago we've been more than eager to switch to FS).

I bought an Amilo A1630 for use at university and it's fantastic. Best screen on a laptop short of one of those Sony X-Black ones (or they slightly inferior clones).

Only problem is that when I'm playing Vice City, it gets bloody hot, so I've just ordered a laptop cooler from ebuyer.
