Died at home yesterday aged 96. I loved his books when growing up, and still do. The Dying Earth series is still one of my favourites, and was a big influence on Neil Gaiman, Michael Moorcock and other writers with comedy surnames. Thanks for bringing to life Cugel, still one of the best anti-heroes I've ever met.

RIP Jack. There was a thread earlier today, not very long though. I've read Vance all my life too and always go back to his books - some I've read over and over. The Demon Princes, Planet of Adventure, Lyonesse and of course Cugel's Saga(s) - my favourite character. Vance was blind for the last decade or so and his wife typed his last few books for him. Amazing, really.
