Tried earlier today to sort out the mess behind the TV and the computer but it's hopeless... I wondered just how many cables I've got there so I decided to make a diagram of my mess. Shocking results, I have no less than 44 cables laying around the TV and the computer, which is in the other room: 12 AC leads 3 USB cables 1 FW cable 4 Ethernet cables 7 RCA cables 3 S-video cables 1 optical 1 DVI 1 VGA 1 mini stereo cable 10 "other" cables I haven't counted the PSUs/cables of the chargable devices such as the DSLR and laptop, nor the mobile. I'm certain there's people here with more stuff than me, how do you deal with your cable mess? Let's start a competition: "whoever has most cables, wins". |
All these cables

Registered 17 years agoLooking at it seriously for a second you could reduce some of the linkage, (and thus make things a bit easier on yourself) by going wireless for your internet connections. However you'd still be wired for sound and vision. The only thing I can suggest for that is to break the links... Or get more hardware!

Registered 20 years agoI limit my controller connections by storing the extra controllers in a box when I'm not using them. It's kind of become a necessity as I have about 20 controllers for the various kit, and to have all that laid out would be silly. And I'm planning to reduce the console->TV linkage by putting all the consoles in a single shelving unit along with an auto-SCART switcher and a 4-way adapter. Then I just need power in and a single SCART out to the TV from that whole unit.
I tidied a bit of my PC area wiring by attaching a 4-way to the monitor output of my PC, and running three other (low power) things as well as my monitor off that. Their leads are a bit long though, so it's still quite messy under the desk. -
I've never gone for cable tidies - for not very well screened cables (such as all console SCART leads), running a mains cable next to them can introduce interference. I just rely on the fact that there's a unit next to my TV so you can't see behind it normally.
