Does the Wii U really need more peripherals? In all honestly I guess it's good to have the choice. I'll be sticking with the pro controller though. |

Registered 11 years agoYeah, that was pretty mental. I wish there were more 1v1 matches though as those were clearly the best but it was good fun and I think the live audience might have liked it a little as well. I did enjoy Reggie telling that guy that next time he'd kick his ass after practicing with the 3DS version!
Now I'm going to be stupid and stay up for another 2 hours for news from the roundtable. -

I heard a lot of people who seemed pretty confident that he;d be in it but I didn't think he would be, glad to be proven wrong. Mario v Sonic v Mega Man v Pac-Man, should be a fun fight!
Game & Watch confirmed to be returning as well! -
The Mii fighters look interesting, particularly the sword fighter. -

Surprised they ended the Direct with the Palutena character reveal and not Pac-Man.

Registered 11 years agoYeah, that is strange, but then it's also strange that they didn't announce Mario party 10 in it at all or show whatever this mystery 3DS game is so who knows what's going on in Nintendo's collective mind.

Yeah, they've really changed my stance on them as, this time yesterday, I was against the idea of them being in the game but it could be fun and I like that they have a few different outfits avilable for each "calss". But, it was said in the roundtable discussion that Miis wont be useable online except with friends so, if you're planning on going online much, you probably shouldn't "main" them. The same goes for any custom move sets with any of the other characters.

I imagine I'll be playing local co-op and a few matches with fellow EGers. I'm curious to know if there will still be the single player platforming campaign or will it be more like the GC version with its challenge levels. The shuffley movement on the platforming stuff was awful on the Wii. I'm definitely interested in the amiibo stuff, if only to have a shelf full of Nintendo characters. Gotta get Kirby and Yoshi. -

Registered 11 years agoSakurai has said that there wont be another Subspace Emissary type thing so it'll likely be more in line with Melee's Adventure and Classic modes. I didn't think SE was that great to actually play but it was more than worth it to watch the cut-scenes. The space fight attack scene is probably my favourite cut-scene from any game ever and even looked pretty good for a Wii game. I'd have loved to have seen what they could have done in the new one with HD, Mega Man and now Pac-Man. Never mind! -
@Matman562
Good to know. From looking at the screens of the 3ds version it looks like the game is absolutely jam packed with different modes and star tracking etc. I wasn't that keen on the 3ds version but am warming to it now. Looks like a good game for commuting so I may be able to justify a double purchase. No doubt they'll do some kind of offer/freebie -

Registered 10 years agoWhole Super Smash Bros. Roster to Be Revealed on August 12th on Monthly CoroCoro | DualShockers
According to the Japanese magazine Monthly CoroCoro, next month, and most precisely on August 12th, the publication will run an supplement that will definitely please Super Smash Bros. fans.
I wonder if we will have to wait one month to know if Bayonetta will be part of the roster

We don't because I'll tell you now, she's not going to be in it for two reasons. 1) She uses guns (or, I guess, more specifically bullets) which are not allowed in Smash Bros. 2) Her power moves basically render her naked, can't imagine Nintendo would want that in their big title of this year. I would like to see her in it but I don't think she would fit.

If we're going to get another 3rd party (which I doubt) I want it to be Rayman. For some reason I hadn't considered him until Sakurai posted the picture of his trophy on Monday but that got me thinking about his potential and I think he could be great in Smash!
I really like the new characters. It's a little disappointing that Lucina seems to be a near identical clone but I've always quite liked Marth but never been that great with him, maybe Lucina will help with that. Robin, on the other hand, looks awesome! I love the idea of only being able to use the spells a limited amount and look forward to seeing how that plays. The announcement has made me really want to go back to Fire Emblem Awakening, I loved it when it came out but started finding it hard and gradually stopped playing. Maybe I should play with perma-death off...
Feels like I've been waiting so long for this new SSB, it's strange to think that in a months time we might know the full roster of characters and in only 2 and a half months we will be playing it (even if it is a "lesser" 3DS version of it). -

Registered 11 years ago@Armoured_Bear Assuming you're referring to the "no guns" thing, it's more realistic guns that are the problem. So laser guns like Fox's blaster, Samus' Arm cannon, etc are fine and for some reason, explosives are too but realistic guns are a no no. Can't for the life of me remember where I heard that though. -
I think Rayman was an actual consideration for this game, but didn't make the cut. He would have been a welcome addition, though.
I can only imagine that any unannounced characters are all from previous games, now. -

Um, Snake used a ballistics based gun in Brawl, did he not? I might be thinking of something else though. He deffo used grenades and mines though, which would be a worse message!
Besides which, such a rule is dumb when there's a killer opportunity for cross-promotion for a game which may or may not sell well, in a game that will sell gazillions. Plus there is not a single other character under Nintendo's umbrella more suited to a fighting game. So even if the 'no guns' rule was a thing, it's still a stupid decision and hypocritical in the extreme.

Registered 11 years ago@SomaticSense No he didn't, he only used rockets, mines and grenades which I guess gets under the rule for being over the top and almost comic like. I do think it's pretty hypocritical but at the same time can see why they wouldn't want Mario to get shot in the head by a gun. I also think that stylistically Bayonetta wouldn't fit in with the rest of the characters and when SSB 3DS come out, Bayonetta wont have ever appeared on a Nintendo platform.
I've also just remembered that at E3 they mentioned in the roundtable discussion that the final roster was decided before development of the game had even got underway, not sure if that would have been before or after Nintendo made the deal with Platinum games.
Having said all that, I'd actually quite like to see her appear in the game, her moveset is fairly easy to imagine and if anyone can make her fit in with the other characters it's Sakurai and his team. I think the only chance of it happening are as dlc though and even then I'm doubtful.
Looking forward to re-reading this message in a few months time when I'm maining Bayonetta in SSB 3DS

Registered 16 years agoEven better that Bayo has never been in a Nintendo published game before 3DS Smash Bros. Makes the cross-promotion more valuable.
If the 'no guns' rule is a thing, they could just not have her use them, ala Snake. Unlike Snake, the guns are nowhere close to being her iconic means of dispatching enemies. It would be an unbelievably stupid reason to leave her out, in the face of the overwhelming positives for both the game and Nintendo as a company for including her. -
Another reason for "no guns" is kinda obvious: how would they even work? With lasers and blasters and suchlike, you can clearly see (and, thus, react to) the projectiles. With fast, tiny bullets, though...?
