It's not a platformer, is it? It's a linear brawler, from what I can tell. It looks really not very exciting at all. If it was a 3D platformer, I'd be first in line. |

Crash Bandicoot seems to be the major influence listening to Cerny talk about it. Looks like a LEGO game to me.

Registered 14 years agoI thought it looked charming in terms of characters but a bit rubbish gameplay wise.
The announcement demo looked very similar to the few minutes I saw of my cousin's kids playing sky-landers. Now that game has been a huge hit. -

USGamer article.
Goes even further to be pegged in the "not for me" folder. I could see the little one getting in to it though. -

Registered 11 years agoStill holding out hope it comes to Crash/Spyro levels of awesomeness. Both in character and complexity (leaning more towards Crash in that repesect). Anyway, Gamescom will be here soon enough so hopefully a release date is announced!
And if Knack doesn't satisfy that nostalgic itch, at least there will be a bunch of indie games on the way to keep us occupied. Hopefully it won't come to that though.

Registered 15 years agoThis looks pretty terrible but if I decide to get a PS4 at launch, I will probably get it for my kids unless there's another kid friendly game announced. -

That's about it really, I'd have it for the little one but not me. It's good to have people make family games though, otherwise you don't get a new generation of gamers coming through.

WiiU is possibly prime territory for that though. -

Registered 8 years agoReally feel like I'm going to get this on day one with my PS4. Just love the attention that's being paid to an older way of playing games and a neglected genre in platforming

I feel if they showed more things like this there'd be a bit more hype for Knack -

Registered 13 years agoThe co-op looks perfectly pitched at what I need to play with my lad - he's only 3 but with the second character playing a support role it sounds like we'll have a great time together. -

Registered 17 years agoThe problem with Knack is that it looks like a current-gen game (running at a higher resolution, of course) in terms of graphics and gameplay. I'm not seeing anything here that couldn't have been done on the PS3. True, you can say that about many of the Xbox One and PS4's launch games (most of them are current-gen games with a face-lift) but at least the exclusive titles on both platforms look a generation leap above 360 and PS3 games. Knack doesn't.
It's certainly not on my pre-order list but I'd still like to play a demo because it doesn't look like a game I would pay £45-£50 for. If it had been a £10-£20 PSN download game then maybe I'd buy it.

Registered 13 years agoIt's strange that this is the next-gen title that people consider not worth the price of next-gen games. An original IP that looks gorgeous and aimed at young families being developed with Cerny in charge... I think it looks really good fun - especially in local co-op. It's not essential, maybe, but still odd to see people attribute a low 'value' to it.
Should this get trashed at review i'll cancel too, but I haven't cancelled because it looks like a budget title... -

Registered 16 years agoMaybe the other issue with Knack is that out of the more family orientated games at launch Lego Marvel looks like the safer bet.
Personally I think it looks like good fun but probably won't pick it up until the new year, unless it's slightly cheaper on PSN than the shops before then. -

Registered 15 years agoYeah I played a demo of this yesterday in Best Buy, and wasn't too impressed by it. Was very 'run around and bash things', much like Lego games style. Definitely wasn't a focus on platforming, although that could just have been the level I was on.
Graphics wise, I was really disappointed. Looked like it could easily have been done on PS3. Particle effects on Knack himself were nice I suppose, but apart from that it was all static environment, can't swing the camera around (like in God of War, the second stick is for dodging).
On the plus side, the controller is lovely! -
Played the demo a few times at the Expo. Graphically none of it looked particularly "ooh, current machines couldn't handle this" and gameplaywise it felt VERY Ratchet / Jak.
Not BAD, just didn't engage me. Mind you, I wasn't a huge fan of those games anyway. Played them a bit, currently playing J&D on my Vita thanks to PS+, but... yeah. -

I'm glad the PS4 launches in the US next Friday (lucky bastards, sorry!) because it will allow me to fine-tune my game pre-orders if I need to. Who knows, maybe Knack will be worth buying? I'm certainly curious (it is a new franchise after all like the Xbox One's underdog Ryse: Son of Rome) but with next-gen console games costing £48-£50 each rather than the £40-£45 of the last-gen launch then I'm having to be more selective (especially as I'm also getting an Xbox One and three games the week before).
