The BBC did a good enough job of highlighting Murray's Scottishness whilst ignoring that inward-looking plank.

Registered 20 years agoMurray deserves the knighthood more than most of the people who have been given it.
Sports personality... he has none, but that's the case with all sportsmen. -
I despise this relentless British/Scottish talk about Murray. -

Registered 20 years agoIt's not a joke at all. But then I do have an interest in tennis. And you've said it yourself... more people care about Wimbledon, and that's how we measure the importance of winning in a sport. No one gives a shit if we win at chess boxing. You may not like that, but it is what it is. Sport is entertainment, and if this victory is hitting more people's hearts, then it is our biggest success.
77 years waiting for a home player to win our tournament - what is considered the home of tennis... no question in my mind that is one of our greatest achievements.

Registered 20 years agoHim winning has not been a sudden achievement. It has taken years and a number of attempts. He is second because of all his work. The victory is the culmination of it all, like all sports. It certainly is a great achievement, even if you just started paying attention a few days ago.
And I, might add, he's done it with a number of decent players on the circuit. -

Registered 13 years agoWimbledon is the most prestigous tournament in the sport and its amazing he won it but apart from Djokovic he played fairly average players. In terms of sporting achievement Murray himself has had better tournaments -

Seriously though, is sporting achievement only even an achievement to you if an underdog wins it? -
