OK - my PC is completely screwed.

First of all it turned itself off, and now it only displays wierd charachters during bootup and BIOS. It starts to boot Windows, but then the graphics card looses signal and a monitor error says its out of range.

I've tried removing and replacing the BIOS battery but no joy - now it doesn't even start to boot Windows. Is the mboard fried, or a virus?

Any ideas?

Tried replacing the video card with an old one or something? 'cos I'd reckon it's either that or the mobo.

I tried checking the graphics card connections, but I havn't got a spare one cus its PCI Express. I'm pretty sure its not that anyway as it turned itself off before it went mental.

I can get into BIOS but can't understand it cus of the weird charachters. Now it starts to boot Windows but the display is just lines of colours.

I'll give the jumper settings a try and post back later. Thanks for the help so far btw

I've seen the garbled characters during POST twice before...once the video card was slightly unplugged from the AGP port, the other time the mobo was fragged. Wouldnt have thought it was either of those though as I cant imagine you'd get into windows
