5 years or so? I guess the story of how revolutionary HL2 was might be passed on down to the next generation of games players.

I think it could actually be a VR game on PS5 era hardware. Plenty potential for innovative new ideas and a special experience.

Funny thing is, for the first time in years, Valve might actually have an incentive to make HL3 right now.

It's pretty obvious why it's not been a priority for years. Valve's income these days comes from Steam and from that nice big slice they take on every game sold. For years, PC gaming basically meant "Steam". Valve had no incentive to actually compete against their own business parties (third party developers and publishers), so they concentrated on experimental and non-genre games (e.g. Portal, Left 4 Dead) and on new markets like VR rather than AAA shooters. Origin, uPlay and GoG were never really major threats.

But now they've got Epic going hard after their market and willing to pull out all the stops to win, including taking a smaller slice of revenue on each game. Valve have a fight on their hands for the first time in over a decade. Under those circumstances, a nice big-name AAA exclusive to firm up the Steam base doesn't look like such a bad idea.

Agree to an extent, but I just don't know if there's that much demand for epic 1st person single player these days. More likely would be a Battle Royale F2P in the Half Life universe or some shit.
