I was over the moon with Mendez doing Spectre, until I saw it. Now I just want him to fuck off. I know Skyfall was divisive, but I thought it was at least an excellent movie in and of itself. Spectre is just a shonky mess from end to end, and that's really sad. |

Registered 18 years agoWow. Serious hate for this film. I really enjoyed it despite the ridiculousness of many bits. I've given up caring about logic in the Bond films and just go with the flow. Very entertaining at the least that way.
I even sort of like the theme tune now. I'm sorry :x -

Registered 11 years agoWe've seen with Casino Royale and Skfall that the current formula can work. The major problem with Spectre IMO is that it has 5 writers.....FIVE!
As a result, the script felt all over the place. Add some anti-climactic action scenes into the mix (car chase comes to nothing, final action scene is Bond shooting a helicopter down with a PISTOL, etc) and it all comes across as underwhelming.
Personally, I would bring Craig, Lea Seydoux and Christoph Waltz back for the next one, but only have two writers (bring Paul Haggis back too) and get a new director. I think Mendes burnt himself out with Skyfall and Spectre back to back.
I highly doubt Nolan would direct, he's too busy making his own movies. I would personally go for someone like Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners, Sicario) or Alejandro Inarritu (Birdman, The Revenant).
Bond is a big enough franchise to attract that kind of talent, let's hope the producers agree.

Spoilers please guys? There are still a few fortunate ones out there who haven't seen it yet. -
Looks like it eh. Avoiding the Star Wars and Walking Dead threads for that reason already but sometimes it's nice to see what people think ahead of watching something. Ah well. -

I'm that way about all films these days. I even enjoyed Terminator Genisys and that last TMNT movie to some degree. Needless to say I'm very easily pleased with movies. Spectre was worse than those two in entertainment value.

All I'm hoping for is people using spoiler tags sensibly, not too much of a biggie one would think. Plus I find this forum usually better feedback than overhyped movie reviews, similar to games.

Well, sorry, but "using spoiler tags sensibly" doesn't really apply months after a film is released. Not in a thread dedicated to a particular film. Spoiler tags make conversation difficult, so most don't bother long after the film is out.

Instead, the burden of being "sensible" falls on people who are presumably sensible enough to avoid places full of people who have seen the thing that they are going to see, and who want to discuss it.
And besides, what is there really to spoil in a Bond film? They do have a certain formula, after all.

Registered 9 years agoAlso, if you think film reviews are "overhyped", you're reading the wrong film reviews. Try some from the Ebert site, or some of the recommended people on Rotten Tomatoes or something. -
It was more a general comment about giving away key plot points about any movie, not so much Bond. I've already seen it so doesn't affect me.
But I take your point that what I'm talking about applies more to the Rate the last movie thread.
Still, the film isn't out for that long, and some people choose not to watch it in the cinema; and it hasn't hit the shelves yet either so there are some out there that might stumble into this thread not being aware of these implied rules, just thought it'd be considerate to them to use tags where needed. Never mind. -

In Spectre's case, above spoilers take the impact of just how shit the ending is away from the viewer

Ok maybe I should change my sources, I usually used IMdb as a guide but have been disappointed with a fair few movies which were praised by a lot of people (both user & professional reviews) but turned out completely different. And I tend to avoid reading all the 10/10 or 1/10 reviews as standard.

Registered 7 years agoThere being a chase scene and Bond shooting something is hardly a spoiler. It's not like this is a film that is particularly original or inventive with the Bond formula. -
As I seem to be in the single minority taking issue (with 8bit's post in particular), I'll give it a rest. Spoil along, nothing to see here. -

Registered 9 years agoIt wouldn't surprise me to see Mendes do Bond 25, this will be Craig's last film and bring around a trilogy feel to Skyfall, Spectre and then Bond 25 -

IMDB scores tend to feel about right to me but there are a surprising number of 1/10 or 10/10 reviews. I wonder if they'd get the same scores by offering the choice of voting BEST/WORST FILM EVERRRR!!!!!11111 with nothing between.

I thought Spectre was pretty good although maybe I'll change my mind when I see it again. I'd avoided reading anything about it so went in with no real expectations. -

Registered 20 years agoBut Skyfall was the end of the CR, QoS, Skyfall trilogy. -
I was wary of average reviews before I went to watch it and I still got massively disappointed on so many levels. Wife reckons it might grow on us when we watch it again, fingers crossed - same happened with Quantum - I'm aware of its many issues but somehow enjoy watching it. More so than Skyfall, which I sort of like apart from the finale. None of the 4 come close to Casino Royale, it set the standard pretty high.
