Registered 6 years agoIt must cost a lot of money for Snyder to film so much that has to be cut. I'm sure he'd be better to have a 2 hour script and film that instead. -

Yep. Even a $billion is a bit of a disappointment. Jurassic World did $1.670 billion and you've got DCs two most recognizable and loved characters that can't get anywhere near close to that.
Boxofficemojo says this has only done $850m worldwide, which must amount to quite a massive failure these days. Captain America will be pushing $2bn I reckon. -

Registered 13 years agoIt could be a good thing though. They'll know now that if they pop out a movie with obvious shortcomings and just hope it does well because it has big superheroes in it they won't get far. If it means they put a bit more effort into future installments I'm all for it. -
Isn't production due to start on Justice League any day now? The studio has to take the blame for this if the movie bombs, rushing it out to ride the superhero wave while it's still popular without leaving any time to learn their lessons from BvS, and especially for keeping a guy in charge who has made precisely one half-decent movie before (Dawn of the Dead) and a string of stinkers. Snyder's only gone and done what he has all his career, can't really blame him for not suddenly morphing into Chris Nolan. -

Registered 14 years agoShocked that it hasn't hit a billion, yet. Regardless of the reviews, a film with Batman and Superman in it is something you have to go see at the cinema, isn't it? It's a cultural event, it's much more than just a film.
I didn't see any of the Marvel films in the cinema, the last comic book film I saw in the cinema was The Dark Knight. I am by no means a Batman/Superman fanboy, I'm probably one or two levels beneath even the most casual cinema-going public in terms of the stuff I will go and watch, yet this was a must-see for me simply because it's Batman and Superman in the same film.

I'm a big fan of comic book movies and even I almost didn't see this. Only went because of a free ticket, wouldn't have paid for it out of my own pocket. Word of mouth was so bad from every person I know that at some point I didn't care it was a movie with Batman v Superman and was just expecting a bad movie. -

I have a friend who is a big Batman fan, the sort where if anyone ever buys him anything (Christmas etc) it has to be Batman themed or at least connected.
Anyway he told me not to bother to go see it, he has a Cineworld unlimited card and said even then felt like a bit of a waste. So personally waiting till Netflix or similar. -

Registered 7 years agoJust having those characters in a film isn't enough for that many people. I love Batman and even I want tempted to watch it.
Just see how many bothered with Superman 4 or Batman and Robin. Them being in one film isn't enough if the film's shit. -

Registered 16 years agoI saw batman and robin at the cinema and was actually happier I had given it money than this.
Also, I think it suffered from MoS being dogshit. It would have probably sailed past a billion if it had been the first movie in the franchise. -

Flash film loses director
It's the old creative differences thing but it appears that WB/DC are getting uncomfortable with having a first time director running the show. So, why hire him in the first place?
Also...
Affleck made executive producer on Justice League
Panic move? Maybe.
Film's made $864 million so far worldwide. Apparently it's not enough.
Apparently the RT score of a film is a huge deal in terms of American cinema goers and WB/DC fear that it'll have a massive negative impact on Justice League. There's also the law of diminishing returns etc.
Probably putting in Affleck as a safety measure. Seems as though I lot of people want him to take over director's duties too.
There were a couple of other stories that got picked up but it's from that crappy source Murder;Death;Kill or whatever the fuck it is. One of them reading Aquaman got shot down immediately and the guy who runs the website got death threats from fan boys.
The first one was that James Wan was leaving Aquaman. Wan tweeted a picture of himself in front of a huge Aquaman billboard as a response.
The second one was that the stand alone Batman film with Affleck was going to contain a lot of villains in it. Nobody knows this but with Suicide Squad coming out it may be a possibility. However they'll probably be brief appearances in Arkham or something and not necessary the having him fight three to four villains at the same time.
It seems as though the popular theory is that WB/DC are shitting their pants. It's a strange world when $864 million is a disappointment,

It's a real shame that WB don't seem to know what they're doing with DC, I was really hoping they'd do well! I'm still holding out hope for the next few movies but if any of them are of BvS quality and success I wouldn't be surprised to see the DCCU scrapped and WB and DC returning to stand alone movies. That might be for the better though tbh. -

Registered 17 years agoSuicide Squad (which I think looks great) and Wonder Woman arrive before the Justice League. Both non Snyder directed.
I can see WB/DC getting Affleck to direct Justice League Part 2 somehow just because they seem to be flapping about. -

Nobody cares what RT says.
As of right now, BvS is the second highest grossing film of 2016. It'll likely be in the top five. -

Ah yes. I totally forgot about Transformers and there's probably a whole lot more like that too. It seems as though the film press have made a lot of it and are trying to tie it into it's 'poor' performance.

Registered 16 years agoI think they really underestimated word of mouth and the drop off it might've played a part in causing. It's sort of the opposite of Deadpool, which had really positive word of mouth and ended up exceeding expectations. Sure, there are other obviously other factors, but positive word of mouth can be powerful. -
Maybe everyone saw BvS once and then promptly forgot about it. Once was more than enough for me at least.
