And where does the $800 million cost come from?

And at least half a dozen reputable news outlets. I dont really understand this narrative to make people who quote sites like variety out to have a narrative, like the word 'narrative' has negative connotations and people just regurgitate the narrative of other people which immediately discredits all available information. Thats as bad a narrative as the narrative in batman vs superman.

One person made the claim with no proof and sites jumped on it. Typical internet stuff really

Im pretty sure thats not the way news works, but whatever keeps your thoughts of people being mean to the movie at bay.

You know they don't get 100% of those box office takings right? They get something like 20-25% of them.

I thought the total cost was supposed to be closer to $400m, 250 for the film, 150 for marketing.

Either way, they'll be lucky to make a profit until home did buying and rental, excluding all the merchandise.

@reviewer Some people seem to have forgotten that.

It definitely dragged for the first hour, but for what it's worth I still quite enjoyed it... It's an unfashionable opinion, I know.

Then again I really enjoyed Man of Steel too (apart from the smashy smashy last act)

I'm pretty sure it will make a profit, but I'm also pretty sure they had far higher expectations. Just about everyone (including Warner, I bet) thought it would at least break one billion dollars easily.

Then again, looking at the early numbers for Civil War, I wonder if that will also end up lower than the previous movies despite all the marketing hype.

Oh, I'm not saying it won't do well, but I was expecting it to perform better than Age of Ultron out of the gate.

WB will certainly get more like 90% for the first two weeks, and then a lesser percentage (but not by much), depending on what they've forced on the cinema chains. Distributors pretty much hold all the cards when it's a blockbuster that the exhibitors will be desperate for.

It's got a clear run till 27th when X-Men: Apocalypse comes out.

Edit: $678.4 million after just 12 days worldwide.

China takes a bigger cut as do places like Russia

Yeah, it depends on what the nut is, but the reason you have signs up saying things like 'no passes allowed for first week' in places like Showcase cinemas is that they're making so little off some films, it's all concession-driven.

I saw this yesterday. I didn't think it was all that bad, though I wouldn't say it was great either. The story was messy as heck and I'm not not entirely sure what motivated any of the characters, but visually there were some fantastic shots in there, Batfleck was great, and Wonder Woman was great too. It's just not quite as good as a film with 2 such major character should've been. Justice League set-up felt really forced too and I wasn't sold on their Lex Luthor. That said, I like that they've really went for something very different in many respects.

Generally I'd have to echo b0rk. All over the place but okay was how I felt too. I honestly enjoyed Batman and Robin more, thanks to the abundance of ice puns and generally embracing how ridiculous it was.

A bit of a change at the top.

Geoff Jonns now joining Jon Berg to run DC films

Looks as though they've having a bit of a shake up. Looks as though they're trying to do a 'Kevin Feige' although they won't say they are.
