I'd expect the price of the current 5" Pixel to drop by a decent amount when the Pixel 2 is unveiled on October 4th. Definitely worth considering.

I've had the XL since launch and it's a lovely phone: no bullshit gimmicks or bloat, just stock Android 8.0. Response is still as smooth as the day it arrived.

Been looking at androids recently, only thing holding me back is airplay style functionality. How do I play music from an android device to something like volumio raspberry pi?

Bluetooth, like you always have done (since you stopped plugging your walkman into the back of your amp at least)? Or does that not work?

Would plugging a Chromecast Audio into it and using Android's native cast protocols not work? Or does Volumio not support Google's casting services? Must admit I'm not really up on these things.

If you absolutely need airplay then I think most Android devices would need to be rooted first, but there may be some vendors who offer that functionality out of the box.

    @CrispyXUKTurbo
Depends on what you mean with something like the Volumio.

The Chromecast Audio is great if you just want to stream music to a stereo. If the Volumio has support for line in audio (not sure what the correct term should be) then that's solved.

What is it you'd like to stream? If it's Spotify then it looks like that's supported by the Volumio itself.

So I'm on the market for a new phone. Possibly below 250 euro, my main concerns are good camera and great battery life. If it can stay below 5.5", all the better.

I'm eyeing the Honor 6X, which is currently 200 euro for the 32/3GB model (and just 230 euro if I want the 64/4GB model), but the dual camera doesn't seem as good as it should. I could also go for something a little smaller.
Lenovo P2 if you can find one. MASSIVE battery. 200 Euro.

I ended up finding a decent deal on a Galaxy A5 2017, so I got that.

Samsung are usually nice, but too expensive for what they offer. Still, on sale, so it was okay.

    Told you to avoid them.

Turning that off only turns off part of what they’re capturing.

Ooooh wow, ok. Did a google and read a few more articles.

That's bad. Why on earth do they need timestamps of when I unlock my phone ffs?

New phone time. I have a sim only contract so am looking at buying a phone outright. What are the current leaders?

Tempted by the S9 edge, I love my S7 edge, though battery life is killing me lately.

Also looking at iPhone x, mainly as I can get a free apple watch with my health insurance, and I like the look of them replacing my fitbit, especially with the waterproof. The downside is you can't listen to music on the iphone which rather renders it pointless.

Any other phones I should be looking at?

Why can’t you listen to music on the iPhone?

Want/need. New phone as well. iPhone 8 is boring, iPhone X is too fragile/expensive (not a good combo).

Assume because of lack of headphone socket.

I'm on the look out for a decent iPhone 7 or up deal for my wife. Her 5S is dying anf and she can't get on with Android.

I've just got the HTC U11, its awesome, I had an M8 for 3 years before that that did everything well except the camera was shit, but this one does everything well and battery life is also awesome. I could never afford/justify it buying outright though. Personally I seem to see an awful lot of Samsungs with cracked casings (plastic) and I know from bitter experience that if you ever need a Samsung repair they will sting you for around £90 if the casing is cracked before they will even look at the phone.

Try Envirofone. Got a black 32gb, standard size iphone 7, unlocked and near mint for 320, which isn't bad.

6s for 199 if you don't want to push the boat out.

I'm due an upgrade next month and I'm not sure where to go either. The price of the S9 deals is fucking rediculous, £65 a month if you don't want to pay up front for the phone. And I don't want to catch apple AIDS so the iPhone is out.

By the way, I did some analysis, if you can afford it you should always buy the handset for the lump sum over the monthly contract. I worked it out to be a saving of 50-100 quid over the 2 years for the expensive phones.

Might be obvious but I thought maybe they were doing interest free type deals when you buy with contract.

Tempted by the S9 from my S7 but know ill buy it and then be disappointed.

I saw the Razer phone for about £30 a month the other day. I'd be tempted by that if I were upgrading, haven't really been keeping track of phones for a while though.

And always wait 1-3 months, other than iPhone nearly all phones are 10-30% off by then.

That is what I do. Especially with a vodafone sim only deal. I pay £20 a month for 13 gig data, unlimited everything else, plus free spotify. I used to pay £9.99 for spotify so that makes the phone contract £10 a month effectively.

    So over 24 months:

    Iphone x = £240 plus £940 upfront = £1180. (1420 excluding spotify)
    Contract is: £199 upfront, £63 a month = £1711.

    S9: = £240 plus £740 = £980 (1220 exluding spotify)
    Contract: £30 upfront, £59 a month = £1445

And yes, headphone is reason I am torn about Iphone along with the fragility. I have very nice wired headphones and have no intention of moving to blutooth. Especially not earbuds where if I drop one I don't have a cable to find it easily.

You should consider the HTC, aluminum case too, they don't have a separate headphone jack which I was concerned about too but I was using Soundmagic ear plugs which are pretty decent but the HTC ear plugs are actually better and besides the HTC just comes with an ickle adapter which just sits at the end of the earplugs cable. HTC actually seem to push their phones as music players so the whole sound system on an HTC is pretty decent.

Just use the adapter that comes in the box with the iPhone X - not an issue.
