I'm still on an iPhone5! Looking for something a big bigger to suit my ageing eyes. Wouldn't mind Android this time around - looking for a cheap data deal so I can use phone as SatNav/Spotify streamer under Android Auto to display on head-unit on dash. Cheaper to get full-link enabled on SEAT than multiple sat-nav updates.... |

Not bad? That’s terrible for a top of the line phone.
Well, my Galaxy S8+ has breathed it's last breath. Had it since launch, so a bit over 2.5 years... Not bad.
I just connected my phone to Car Play for the first time since upgrading to iOS 13 and was surprised to see how much it’s changed. I wasn’t really a fan of it before and I haven’t used it enough now to have an opinion, but it seems much more interesting. I certainly wasn’t expecting it to evolve so much. -

Registered 16 years agoMost of my daughter's friends have got iPhones. She's got one of the newest at an iPhone 7 but there are a couple of 5s floating about. If you chuck a new battery in there before you hand them over, they will last and last.
They are good for kids, though. iMessage is pretty good, the parental controls are great and find my phone is a great stalking tool. -

I thought it did well, considering the use it got and how much care I'd given it. I'd not been careless, but it's had its fair share of travelling, knocks, and activity!

OLED screen burn in is just something you accept, I've got a pretty obvious banner on the top of my phone, and a black spot on an edge where I dropped it. Although the glass didn't break, the screen in that part is 'dead'.
If I was to crack this open and get a new battery, screen, and charger port fitted, it would be pretty expensive.

Registered 18 years agoContrary to Nick's opinion I like my S8.
Such so I bought the company! ( Did that advert make it to the UK?)
No so much so that when I smashed my last one I just replaced it with another. Couldn't see 5he point in extra spending £££ 8n the models above.
I always found it did everything required fairly competently. -

They're fragile, prone to physical wear (the home button, and the mute button especially in my experience), and the battery degregation are particularly painful.
As for the OS itself, it reminds me of Windows 95 in the sense that I'd often find myself completely wiping and rebulding to get the performance back. -

Registered 6 years agoMy phone contract is up (iPhone 8) and I briefly considered getting an 11 - wanted a pro but the pricing is ridiculous. Anyway, I have just dropped down to sim-only, and with Sky (O2) you can get 500 minutes, unlimited texts and 3GB data for £6 a month which is bananas. 12-month contract.
I'm just gonna get a new battery and run this phone into the ground. -

Registered 15 years agoI don't know who needs to hear this, but if you're a BT broadband customer, you can get a Google Pixel 3a for £20 a month, no upfront cost, unlimited SMS and minutes and 12GB a month. I got it for my missus. -

Registered 19 years agoCurrently looking at new phones, my last was a OnePlus 3t, was great (and still is) except the battery life has gone to shit (could replace) and the camera no longer focuses (bit harder).
3 years, just about acceptable. Bit annoyed though as the phone is still fast enough and in good condition - if these bits worked properly I'd just keep going with it.
Actually have just seen that they were still fixing the cameras for free last year so might give that a go, then replace the battery myself. -

Registered 6 years agoYeah I'm due a new one next month. What's viewed as the best android now? Most of the reviews say the Samsung but does it still have all the shitty Samsung stuff on them? The next best seems to be the Huawei but China. -

Registered 19 years ago@Dougs just out of interest why don't you like Oneplus as a company?
To me they seem very customer-focused.
Only issue for me really is the lack of wireless charging and water resistance (which are really surprising given they've become more or less ubiquitous in premium handsets over the last couple of years). -

Yep. I have one and love it. I did need to replace it after six months as when travelling the humidity shorted out the water sensor, that may be bad luck or may be poor design, but apart from that it is fantastic.
