Oh thatís a surprise. Pixel 2 front cam was excellent! Looks like a really solid phone though. Iím recommending any of the new pixels to people asking, as theyíll be happy with the photos for their kids and pets!

I'll have to redact that now I've had a bit of a play with it, front camera is actually very decent. Must have been in shit light before.

First phone I haven't turned the haptics off on immediately too. Very satisfying feedback.

    Really happy with it.

Finding the Pixel 5 excellent here - big upgrade from my Oneplus 3t, a million times more responsive, better battery, smaller (but similar/bigger screen), lighter etc.

People have said the speakers are a bit pish but they're so much better than the 3t was.

All just feels very quick, streamlined and easy. Just feels great to use.

    Advice request time;

Had a Oneplus 5t and really liked it but changed for a Samsung S10e due to having a Samsung watch and earpods. Wanted to try out full Samsung setup, to see how nicely integrated it would be. But frankly now missing my Oneplus. In particular how it is so messy with Samsung having there own apps and even there own app store that needs updating, not to mention the oodles of extra settings vs Oneplus simple but smart additions to stock android.

So made me start looking at other related Chinese brands, and there are loads like Realme X50, Xiaomi mi10 (lite) , Oneplus Nord and not to mention last years phones on ebay like Xiaomi 9T Pro. So which do you get now, worth stretching for the Oneplus family? Or have the budget phones moved on enough that the likes of Mi10 Lite or Poco X30 will do. Thank you.

Shame you missed the Prime day deals for the OnePlus 8...
Xiaomi have done some basic Android one phones which were even more stock than OnePlus, but the vast majority of them use their own UI which is going to be absolutely if you don't get on with Samsung.

I'd say OnePlus or Pixel should be your main options really if a clean UI is your priority.

The new pixels are reviewing well, so are probably worth looking at. The 3a is probably the best android experience Iíve had, tbh. I had a galaxy s8 before that and hated it for similar reasons.

    I'd jump on HOTUKDEALS.COM.

They have a whole community searching out deals. If you're looking for a budget Chinese phone they'll have all the current deals and codes plus upcoming sales.

I'm probably in the minority here, but Samsung's One UI really isn't all that bad these days imo. Bixby can still fuck right off though!

I came from a 5T to a S8 and hated it and went straight back to the 5T for another while. For some reason I decided to try the S9 (mate at work was selling), and it seemed to have improved a fair bit, enough for me to stick with it.
Ended up buying the snapdragon S10+ last year (around Easter) when a deal popped up on HUKD, and it's become my longest lasting phone in ages... There's no real itch to upgrade it apart from wanting 5G.
The duplicate apps are a bit annoying, but after a bit of uninstalling/disabling it's really not all that bad. It's definitely a lot cleaner than it used to be.

I agree the basic UI is much improved these days on Samsungs. The issue is all the other stuff for me, like why changing a theme you go via 2 other menus to be directed to another store. Or swiping left get 'cards' that try to emulate Google now but are full of stuff like daily gifs and Spotify instead of actual useful things.

The OneUI is functional but just a bit bloated compared to what I used to with Oxygen or stock.

Had a week with the Pixel 5 now and I'd have trouble moving on to anything else at this point. An excellent phone with or without that headphone deal.

I made the switch from Apple been an iPhone user for 8 yrs to a Samsung Note 20 ultra as I fancied a change.

Wish I'd done it years ago.

Took a few days to unlearn some iOS muscle memory but my god the phone and screen is amazing.

The battery after a few charges is now holding its own too.

My first Samsung phone and I'm very very impressed even if I am still struggling with android a bit but I'm getting there.

Definitely the best feeling phone I've used, fast, great battery, phenomenenal camera. Guess I don't do anything too processor intensive (e.g. games) but it feels snappy enough to me!

Well I sold my iPhone 11 Pro and went back to my pixel 2 in the meantime and I barely feel a difference, so I picked up a cheap pixel 2 XL .. sold the pixel 2.. and although the battery is old and at about 80%.. feeling dumb I didnít get the Pixel 5 when the headphones deal was still on... waiting for iPhone 12 pro max just to see if the camera is worth it... if not.. Iíll get a pixel 5 I think.. screw it

Been spending ALOT of time looking on eBay and comparing phones on GSMarena and i think it is either OnePlus 6T or Pixel 3XL. Both are in the £200 ball park.

The Mi 9T Pro is also a consideration because it has a really well supported community so plenty of custom roms for it and the specs are decent. But need to toss up if i can really be bothered to use custom roms again, havent on my last couple phones because it is always a little bit of faff but when it works its great.

Either way £170-230 should get me something that isnt filled with bloated crap.

Also came across this on the hotukdeals site:

    https://www.johnlewis.com/oppo-reno-4-z-smartphone-android-8gb-ram-6-57-inch-5g-sim-free-128gb/white/p5189638

edit: upon reading about ColorOS its a big no, but leaving the link here as think still good value for money if someone wants Oppo.

After getting my S20FE earlier this month I'm now having an online spat with the samsung trade in team. They now want me to pay them £50 as the screen on my trade in phone has a crack. So my trade in value is only 50 quid.

Not only that the fucking trade in promotion has now increased to £200 for a working S8!

Their solution? Pay the trade in team 100 quid to get my S8 back. Box up the S20FE return it to them for a refund.

Buy a new S20FE and send my S8 back to the same refund team to get the new promotion.

So I've fired off several grumpy emails to a variety of teams.

Never thought about Oppo before (same company as Oneplus), but the specs look decent for £330. What are peoples thoughts on this?

Edited by Sharz at 17:28:30 23-10-2020
What's your budget? You went from 200 to 330

    What about a Pixel 3a or 4a £349?

The Pixel 3 had pretty bad battery life from my experience with it, the XL anyway. Are you looking at used phones I assume?

Don't forget about CEX, they give A 2 year warranty which is good if going used.

They have the 3a grade B for 220 and the Mi 9t Pro grade B for £200

Funny you mention CEX, walked past one this afternoon and saw a 6T for £200. It was 'C' grade but didnt look too damaged just some scratches. Thats what made me add them to the list.

If you order it online you get 2 weeks to make your mind up about the condition for a full refund. If you buy in store pretty sure you just get credit back. Just a tip, as I have bought grade C stuff before to see how bad.

You can just return to your nearest store after they give it a test.

They get a bad name from some people here but I've bought countless mobiles there and been happy with them.

Thank you for the advice, never bought from them so didnt know that.

Dont have a set budget, just like value for money and think if you can get what you want in a £200 phone why spend £400. That is what is appealing with the 1 or 2 year old phones. Ruled out the 4a as thought it was a bit small. The 4a 5G is good, but thats getting pricey.

The £330 phone linked above just looked pretty decent overall.

Thank you, gave me alot of good ideas. The F2 Pro in particular looks good.

However as luck happens just been able to win an auction on eBay for good condition Pixel 4XL for £294. Pretty happy with that as ticks all the boxes. Think iam sorted, but if for whatever reason that doesnt work out will certainly come back to the F2 Pro idea.

Wow, I'm jealous. I am using a £70 Pixel 2XL at the moment as I sold my iPhone 11 Pro and was considering the 4XL. Even this 2 is still a good phone tbh .. just love their cameras
