OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro officially unveiled today. Pro looks nice, but I can't stomach dropping 830 on it, but tempted by the 9, which is 200 cheaper...
I ended up getting an unexpected bonus from work so plumped for the Pro :)
I hope to have it a week or so

OnePlus 9 Pro arrived today. It's lovely!

The main improvement over my 6T (so far) is that the fingerprint scanner actually works properly :)

A question if someone can oblige me, my boy uses an unbranded cheapy Chinese android phone I bought from Amazon a few months ago, its worked OK thus far but now is not recognising the SIM card, have tried various other cards and tried his card in 2 other phones and its apparent it's the phone not the SIM. Before I send it back to Amazon for replacement/refund I ought to do the obligatory factory reset. Now my boy uses the phone mainly with WhatsApp and has dozens of contacts, if I do a factory reset (and the SIM still doesn't work) will I be able to get WhatsApp up and running again and will his contacts/conversations be saved or must the SIM work for that to happen?

Back it up and restore once you get the new phone....

Yeah, should be fine. Just go into WhatsApp settings within the app and make sure it's the set to back up to his Google account (settings > chats > chat backup)
It'll just prompt you to restore when you first open WhatsApp on the new phone.

Contacts should just be synced automatically and should be there when he signs in on the new phone. You have to go out of your way to save them to SIM these days thankfully.

Thanks both, just before I did a factory reset I had a last ditch search around the settings and found a 'reset all networks' setting which has miraculously done the job. :)
