My first thought after reading this story was 'poor fucker', not only has he been named and shamed by the BBC for a minor but embarassing crime but his feeble excuse (of which, despite the article's words, I'm sure police officers have heard far worse) has been made a source of ridicule for him.

The BBC used to be the very epitome of world class reporting, has it really come to this?

It's what the public wants, sadly. There's a reason why the Daily Mail site is one of the most popular "news" sources around.

Well, maybe he'll think of a better excuse next time.

If he hadn't dreamed up the crap excuse it would have been bottom of page 12 in the local paper material.

And after he'd already found one tom all by himself.

In a nissan micra too. I wouldn't have thought there was much room for such shenanigans.

The BBC is now the government funded incarnation of the Daily Mail.

I prefer vine tomatoes and I always feel them first to make sure they're firm.

Link disappoints. No-one's buying tomatoes! Unless it's a euphemism. In which case I'll see if my wife wants to go shopping for tomatoes later.

Except for the slight detail that it isn't government-funded or extremely right-wing.

It's gone to shit, but it's not government funded or right wing. Therefore it is not a government funded daily mail.

It was on the most popular stories box for a while. What would they do if this chap topped himself? If you Google his name, this is going to come up for all eternity....
