Registered 11 years agook, it's all done and it's baking. Jesus christ, that was a lot of bacon.
It's baking now and I made sure the bacon wasn't quite that crispy before baking.
Here's the drunken shots, and I'll do another one when it's cooked -
you'll have to excuse my drunken nature, but here goes -
A slightly large amount of bacon -

Before the breadcrumbs -

Breadcrumbs

Just gotta see what it looks like and tastes like in 20 minutes -
I've sunk a bottle of red; I'd certainly eat that -

Registered 11 years agoomg. It's fucking unbelievable! Winner!
The breadcrumbs really top of it off! Highly recommended as long as you like a lot of bacon.
Right, film, more beers and try to polish this off, but there's about 3 days worth - again, winner

Recipe is a piece of piss too - just cook whatever carbs you want, fry some bacon separately, then make a butter cheese sauce type affair - chuck it all together and lob it in at 180 for 20 minutes -

Registered 11 years agoRight, its pretty rich. Might be better with a little bit less bacon but the consistency and flavour is pretty fucking good. Feel like a right fat cunt now -

Registered 9 years agoAwesome and you delivered, looks like an apple crumble though, I'm sure it tastes sublime though with those ingredients, I'd have sunken some herbs in there somewhere, maybe some thyme or mint, I'm a herb nut though. -

Registered 11 years agoIt probably needs a little less bacon, as it's quite full on, and it certainly looks like a crumble, but when you've plated it up, it just looks like a full on bacon carbonara with a crispy breadcrumb topping.
I think you're right - a bit less bacon and perhaps some herbs mixed into the sauce would have given it the edge - herb addict too.
I'll do that next time I do it

Registered 11 years ago@Razz - Pretty much - milk + butter for sauce, but, er, yeah, that's it. Needs herbs as Optimus says, but it's effectively bang on

Registered 11 years agoI've just finished off today's portion and now I need a lie down
Seriously, you've all gotta try this -
(I used spaghetti instead of macaroni and probably about 15 times the amount of bacon listed below, but still. It's in US measurements and temperature annoyingly)
Ingredients:
1/2lb sliced bacon (diced)
1 (8 ounce) package elbow macaroni
2 cups milk
¼ cup butter
2 tablespoons flour
1 teaspoon onion salt
ground black pepper (to taste)
2 (10 ounce) blocks sharp white cheddar cheese (shredded)
1 cup breadcrumbs
¼ cup butter (melted)
Cooking Instructions:
Step 1: Pre-heat the oven to 400 degrees. Grease the bottom of a medium casserole dish. In a large skillet over medium-high heat fry bacon (in batches if necessary) until crisp.
Step 2: Cook noodles according to package directions. While noodles are cooking in a saucepan over medium heat melt butter. Blend in the flour onion salt, and pepper until smooth. Slowly whisk in the milk, a little at a time getting rid of any lumps. Add shredded cheese until the sauce has become thick.
Step 3: Drain noodles, and in a bowl stir them into the cheese sauce. Mix in bacon. Pour the noodle mixture into the casserole dish. Combine bread crumbs and melted butter in a small bowl. Sprinkle the bread crumbs mixture over the noodles in the casserole dish.
Step 4: Place into the oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes.

Registered 17 years agoMy mum used to make essentially that dish all the time when we were growing up, just not as much bacon as you used! One thing she added was peas.
Just lob a big handful of frozen ones in and they will be perfectly cooked, with a bit of bite, and add a nice variant to the texture (as well as making you feel slightly less guilty about eating half a pig).
Going to have to try that bacon explosion, looks superb. -

Excellent job!
"Too much bacon" is not in my vocabulary, though... only "not enough".

That's why I was asking. I know how you think it's not "proper".

Nah, belly bacon is great, my favourite cut.
