Help me choose a keyboard and sound system

I need a replacement keyboard. I've been using a £5 jobby for a while now, and the keys are starting to seize up.

I'm after something a bit cooler (not grey) that will match my black and silver Shuttle case.

    So far I've spotted:

Saitek PZ08AU - The glow up keys would be handy as I prefer to play in the dark, as would the detachable numerical keypad (as I used the num keypad to control FPS's)

This cooler master looks fantastic - shame it's not wireless.

This looks fantastic, but £70 for a keyboard? Ouch!

The DeNovo kit is amazing, but that's just silly money, and I already have the mouse.

What keyboards are you guys using? Any you'd recommend?

As for the sounds, I've currently got an old Creative 4.1 sound system, but my girlfriend's guinea pig chewed through the wires. I'm curious, as Whizzo et al have raved about surround sound headphones - would it be wise to buy those and just have a 2.1 system for my PC? Or would you stick with a 5.1 surround sound speaker system? Whichever option I went for it would have to be loud enough to pump out music at "house party" levels.

Maybe the logitech 5500 something harryb bought a few days ago. I believe he was rather pleased with them. And it has a optical in so you can hook up your xbox for dolby surround or dts.

Are you sure you want a wireless one? They get a bit sluggish towards the end of battery life and battery life isn't all that long.

I use a bog standard MS Multimedia Keyboard.

I'll check out the 5500s - thanks. Still, would people prefer surround speakers over surround headphones?

Don't they retail for clear over £100?

I've got the space, but I've no idea what I'd do with all the wires! Got any more details?

Sam - it's be nice as it would fit with everything else, but not essential.

What's considered "loud" in terms of speaker wattage?

It's simply a subwoofer and 6 satellite speakers, nothing crazy.

    Boomy bass, trill highs.

I dont need them as I've got it hooked up through my new dvd setup.

Depends on the amp, the effiency of the speakers and how the wattage figures were measured.

Not much by the look of it. Crapper mouse but you already have the big Dinovo one dont you? Maybe worth a quick call to Logitech to see if they work together. Cant imagine them not.

    Oh my!

    Yes please!

Any thoughts on how these compare with the Medusas? You don't get a mic (an advantage to their looks IMO), but I already have a couple of free standing ones so I'm not too bothered. They're considerably cheaper too.

Well I called in to PC world on my way home as I planned to "try before I buy" with the DiNovo keyboards and boy am I glad I did!

The full version (not the laptop/non bluetooth version) was sitting there, looking at me, with the price tag of £99.99. That's half the RRP!! The laptop version was the same price - shocking!

They were out of stock (typical), but I've found another store in the local area with 4 in stock, so I'll be buying those tomorrow, all of them, and the wandering over to ebay. Coolio!

Oh, and I tested the speakers in my "yes please" link above. Simply awesome. Any Mac owner would be foolish to pass them by.

That's one of the most efficient technical explanations I've ever seen on these boards. :)

    /taps Mac keyboard

Works on the PC, as you saw at the 'meet'. Nice and durable and has USB ports on the back. Huzzah.

50 quid though. I think. Maybe cheaper. I dunno.
