I want to record 24/7 up to 4 video cameras, at least two with a IR night mode, to a PC.

Any recommendations? For software or hardware?

We have some Axis network cameras here at work, although they are quite old they do a reasonable job.

there is a weekly documentary on about Swansea indoor market and they recently bought a system like this and said it was dead cheap, although they did not mention the name or who they bought it from.....er.....

You could use network cameras with a server to store the recorings in whatever format you want.. Not that expensive.

You could also go for the IP option but the cameras start costing stupid money.

I did a comparitive quote once for a company that helped us out. Will see if I can dig it out.....

Here is the IP route with live streaming:

Real time streaming licenses for hosted server
IP Camera located at client site
    ADSL Router & Splitters
    Consultancy & Installation

    Specification:
Hosting of server at datacente £250 /month
    ADSL 512kbps for each site £52.40 /month

Total cost including VAT: £11k !

Ta, people. Thats a few options I did not see. Budget wise I was thinking less than £500 for everything.

Check out a home automation website, such as www.letsautomate.com. They usually offer a range of different solutions at varying costs.

Let me know what you go for in the end, as this is something I'm looking into ultimately.
